Roland TR-1000 User Thread

Yep, same here

cool - reported it as a bug, along with the cycle /fill-in bug, and the Track fx delay sync time bug.

also made a couple of feature suggestions

It would be good to be able to name Samples / Instruments / Kits / Patterns / Songs more quickly rather than having to use the knobs to select characters. Two suggestions for this A) Allow auto-naming of these with a random name generator, this could be executed by using the ā€œFill-In Trigā€ button to ā€œfill inā€ the name. or B) Allow a class compliant USB keyboard to be connected to the USB-A port for typing names in.

Allow faster access to the Ext In / Reverb / Delay pages in the Kit menu. eg hold shift and rotate one of the delay knobs to take you to the Kit Delay settings page.

Please bring over some of the TR-8S master FX (eg Vinyl Sim, HP/LP filter, Fuzz etc) and Reverb types (eg Ha-Dou).

When in the Menu → File → Sample mode, directory browsing is frustrating. If you enter a folder, then go back to the main directory, it always takes you to the top of the list of folders again, rather than staying on the folder you just exited.

just in parallel, really… i keep things overly simple. i’m moreso combining the powers of the Tonverk and Labyrinth and I actually chose the Labyrinth because it’s a monophonic / dual oscillator synth that can get really exploratory within its own sequencer while giving me the ability to multi-sample it on the Tonverk. The TR-1000 I am really just using as a drum machine on its own… I’ll probably change routings up and mess around with some configurations but right now I am still really learning all 3 devices at once since I just got the 3 of them lol

but, yeah, my philosophy through the years has always been: find 3 machines that compliment eachother really well and keep things simple. that’s how i’ve always been able to find way with gear in the best way possible. i hate having too much gear… it feels gluttonous and overly indulgent

I’m so jealous, it is the philosophy I would like to get but I can’t sell my gear, I’m so sadly materialist ! xD

buying and selling so much gear over the years made me realize i really just needed to slim things down and learn 3 machines inside and out… it’s just works for me lol

Sorry if this has been addressed already, but I’m in need of advice.
Copied from another forum …

Can I clarify with you guys , is it a known issue that you cannot see custom folders (categories) you import yourself via the app, or am I misunderstanding how to import.

At the moment I import multiple samples with ā€˜other’ as category in the app , and then have to make a category on the machine itself, and move them to that. If I do it in the app the 1k won’t see the category I made.
I’ve assumed this is a bug.

I hope they extend category import somehow , because at the moment I’m ending up with lots of categories as I want sample packs to stay together.
I.e. at the moment I have categories for Samples from Mars Essential collection , but have to categorise them as SFMESSBD , SFMESSHC , SFMESSYH etc , etc

I know I could import them to the (BD A) folder and then select user samples , but it’s more 8ntuative to keep my sample packs together.

How are you guys doing it ?

Also , is it known bug that the Lfo misses the first trig ?
Tried multiple waves and changing phase.

You can create a new category in the app. It’s a bit unclear somehow while being obvious at the same time. I missed it as well at first. When you don’t select a specific category, it’s highlighting NEW and by default it adds OTHER in the field. But you can simply remove OTHER and type your own category name in.

Also: scroll a bit up in this thread to my previous post as there is some quirky behavior here that you should know, but it does work: Roland TR-1000 User Thread - #1863 by DaveMech

You’re right sample import with the App can be buggy. I had the same issue with the app. Sometimes the category is not created. Sometimes it is and it is empty. Sometimes file names are corrupted and often it will trigger a crash.

This was using 1.13 and the first version of the app, and only noticed when I started to do bulk sample transfers.

On the other hand USB stick imports seem 100% reliable so far.

The App and device itself have very basic sample management tools in terms of file handling.

Here is another users post from GS that may also help:

What I have learned from Roland support is that, the TR1000 reliably only excepts 16 bit at 48 kHz , as I was loading samples in at 16 bit 44 kHz and having all sorts of problems, support recommended 16 bit 48khz which has been working good , when you create a folder make sure it’s under 8 characters in the name as the TR1000 plays up and only lets you see these folders via shift sample command and not via the Gen or category section .
https://support.roland.com/hc/en-us/…s-can-I-import
This link information above is not correct as confirmed by Roland support to me , as 16 bit 48 kHz is only recommended at the moment and support said they are going to change this info. Deleting samples I found is better and more precise when you reboot the TR1000 , as if you try and delete a sample made or imported in that session it won’t delete , only after a power cycle , that’s my experience, also I noticed when exporting a wav from the TR1000 , the info on the wav on the get info via my Mac it says it’s wav 16 bit 44khz , so it exports at 16 bit 44 kHz but only reads 16 bit 48 kHz reliably , all a bit confusing considering most devices read and except most file formats, hope some info here my help you as this is my workaround s at the moment
And hopefully future near OS updates will address these basic things , fingers crossed

Good news - SH-4D slaves perfectly to the TR-1000 (master) with no dropped beats

Bad news - the SH-4D changes pattern one bar late when receiving program change messages from the TR-1000 :frowning:

:rage:

Yes I’ve been doing that , but then he Tr1000 doesn’t see that category , at least for me it doesn’t , hence I’ve been having to make a new category on the 1k itself even though I’ve imported using the App.
I assumed it would be a bug everybody is having ?
I’m on Mac though , maybe that’s it ?

Thank you , I was doing the same as that poster , I will batch convert.

Can anybody replicate the LFO bug missing the first trigger ?
Just want to find out whether it’s a bug or me. Like I say I’ve adjust phase to check the LFO.
That’s assuming the Lfo is always phase reset at start , it seems that way , but it’s hard to tell sometimes.

I’m also on Mac. Should simply work. Have don this a few days ago. Are you on the latest firmware and app software ?

Hi all, I updated to the new firmware 1.14, but after this update there is no audio coming out of the main outs or the headphone out.

I’ve reinstalled the firmware and no joy with the audio - neither with the factory patterns or my own patterns in other projects slots.

Following some posts I saw in Facebook, I did a back up to USB and a full factory reset, followed by a restore from
USB, which brought everything back to normal with the factory projects playing audio, but as soon as I move to a personal project in a different project slot, the no audio glitch happens again and there is no sound.

It seems that my personal patterns in Project slot 2 have some sort of bug, because as soon as I try to load a project there is no sound. Then, if I try to go back to the factory project slot 1, the no audio issue happens again and I have to switch the machine off and back again to get the audio to work.

It seems only project slot one with the factory patterns will produce audio after powering off the machine and powering it on.
As soon as I set up a new project and try to enter a pattern and change sounds, the audio fails and I have to turn the machine on and off again, and again only project slot one with the factory patterns will produce audio.

Has anyone else experienced the same thing?

That sucks

Not here. On 1.14. Didn’t backup / restore or do a factory reset either.

Did you come from 1.13?

Yeah, came from 1.13.

I’ll log a report with Roland as I’ve tried a number of different things and the behaviour is repeating consistently.

Roland really need to get their act together on this machines firmware, what a mess :man_shrugging:t2:

It was an issue for me on 1.13 doing some transfers but not others

I couldn’t identify what caused some category creation fails and what transfers were successful.

I had a folder of ā€˜background ambient’ sounds which I tried to create with the category name ā€˜Ambience’. Failed at least 4 times. Had to delete the samples and try again every time.

It made the category, and transferred the samples which were visible in the menu-file-samples section but the category was empty. Couldn’t populate it.

Did it with USB transfer and it worked perfectly the first time

Yes all up to date , but as drxcm says I sometimes get an error also.
A memory error , I have to reboot. I also get files left over from other catergories on import.

Like a file will always be left in the old category even though I moved the whole folder.

Sometimes it’s ok for 5 or 6 imports and then you get the error while scrolling.

Maybe I should factory reset.

Sounds very annoying indeed. I’ll be on the lookout for this for sure. Haven’t uploaded massive amounts of samples yet so maybe just got lucky.
