Roland TR-1000 User Thread

Yeah unfortunately solid external MIDI sequencing with synchronised samples is essential to me. I’m not changing my entire studio and workflow of over 35 years just to accommodate one drum machine.

It’s just not the right machine for me.
I would have gone mad sitting on the sidelines and not checking it out for myself so no regrets but time to pass it on.

Every time I record a loop and assign to track, I always have to TURN BPM Sync on and set the sample BPM to match the project. Was this the case before v1.14? I don’t remember having to do that.

Would be better if the BPM defaulted to the pattern/project tempo rather than 120bpm. And BPM sync should be on by default IMO.

Just sell it and move on man. You don’t need to repeat yourself—we understand. You have a very specific use case. No need to keep bashing it.

Nope. That’s a new behavior.

I think there will need to be a major rewrite of the audio engine for many of the issues we discussed.

Interesting find while importing samples through the app:

When adding a new category, when the name is “too long” it gets cut off in the import category view, but the full category name will be visible on the TR. However, when you then import more samples via the app on that category, it adds an additional category with the shortened name… Quite quirky behavior.

Workaround: Select ‘new’ as category and type in the full name of the category you made before. The samples will then be imported correctly.

Ok thanks, will report as a new bug. It’s quite annoying.

Agree. Not holding my breath though.

For me the audio gap is the biggest concern. I’m enjoying the TR-1000 a lot. But I really miss transitioning to other patterns, building out a set. It just does not feel right with the audio gap. I know I can use other gear to mask this or a looper.

A premium device like this should have an audio engine that is capable of this. And it probably is. It’s just not programmed for it. I mean, even a device like the Dirtywave M8 can load songs and cue them without any audible break or glitch.

Haha, good question. I finally was able to upload some samples and get to work a bit more deeply. Last few months were a bit crazy. TR-1000 + Tonverk experimentation phase is initiated. Stay tuned

edit: Sounding lovely by the way!

You would really think so, seeing as how the 8S and 6S do not have this issue when switching patterns to a new kit! Smooth as butter on my 6s.

I built out a set on the 6s where I barely even used variations, and each new pattern was the next part of each song. And each pattern contained it’s own unique kit. And there were never any audible gap - it’s almost like it loaded the next one up in a blinking “buffer” of some sort before it changed over

You can’t change kits without a brief gap.

So much for a dedicated user thread.

It’s not a “time” gap. It’s a sound gap.

My setup is:

  • Roland TR-1000
  • Elektron Tonverk
  • Moog Labyrinth

Don’t need anything else. Love this setup.

Last one is really great!

Yeah I’m getting a labrynth next.

Yeah it’s amazing.

How are you using the TR and TV together? What’s your workflow?

Installed 1.14 - no crashes so far
I saw in the firmware update notes that “Roll” was fixed
But mine is still off time, double triggers when enabling - seem off

Anyone else?
