Roland TR-1000 Rhythm Composer

The screen is definitely different on the old (ordered on day 1) vs new (ordered 3 months ago) TR-1000s! It’s hard to see on the photos, but the newer’s display is a bit nicer IMO. It’s a bit brighter and less green to my eyes.

Old vs new:

I’m prone to believe you but other than obvious differences in magnification and lighting its pretty much impossible to detect what you’re describing from the photos you posted.

I take it you’re comparing two units side by side? Do you have some insight or knowledge that rules out the simpler explanation of normal part-to-part variation of the same screen model?

i believe this wasnt posted earlier, they updated the release notes to include the small improvements

I am not sure how to take photos that shows the screen difference. It’s minor, but I can certainly tell them apart. I don’t have great vision and it’s easier for me to see the newer display.

I think they’ve simply changed suppliers and the newer models have slightly nicer screens.

No more freezing, hey?!?!

Huge if true! I haven’t had one yet, though I’m not sure why I’m tempting fate!

No one responded I’m assuming for a reason. But you can’t be serious.

I have heard that the latest Universal Audio LUNA Pro actually automatically fits your tempo to the timeline. Havent yet tested it though. Its supposed to wrap your project tempo to the actual tempo of the recorded music. Might be interesting to test it with a TR-1000 recording…

It’s weird mannnn.

Even when you put the TR in “all-samples” mode, i.e. all 14 tracks are playing back samples…it sounds better than all my other drum machines.

And the swing settings. I have my beat swung to 62. It grooves so nicely. And yet there’s no setting in any of my other machines that’s in the same pocket. (Which is kind of problematic when trying to swing the other synths to the same syncopation!) Logic at 64% is kind of close but isn’t grooving quite the same.

Some black magic going on in this machine…

Its that jitter and bad clock people are complaining about

Record all that stuff to audio, if Roland fixes the jitter etc issues, it will never sound quite the same again…

The 808 would drift at high tempos. There was a hidden mode in the TR8 that emulated it.

Since I’ve been using firmware 1.5, the ‘cycle’ found in the trig menu isn’t working as expected on the 1 I 2 setting.

When it’s set to trigger on just the first of the 2 cycles, it’s triggering every time, and when it’s set to trigger on the second cycle, it’s not triggering at all.

Would someone with a TR mind testing this on their machine, please… I’m not sure if it’s a bug or just related to my machine.

TIA

Great point! Will do.

Cycle working fine for me. In 1.5.

Can’t believe I finally ordered a TR-1000 on thomann after deciding it’s mature enough according to you all here. Always dreamed about having OG 909 / 808 in my music, feeling like a kid ! really hope I will be able to sync it fine with ableton. Thanks to everybody here for sharing your experience, it helped a lot ! Will report my own experience here as well

I did a bit of testing this morning and these bugs seem to be fixed

TR-8 was nasty from memory.

It was great, from mine.

Sounded brilliant. Simple to use. Preferred it to the TR8S in many ways. The green was unnecessary but hey ho.

I only meant the timing - I was in the Hamamatsu meetings at the time

If only you could’ve swayed them away from the green
