Yea it’s more of a ‘feeling’ than a reality I think - it feels off, an itch that can’t be scratched. I’m sure that in reality it causes no usability issues at all.
And as noted by @Schnork it does have the benefit of helping you more easily locate specific parts - so I could see it being a gift more than a curse.

I’m semi pro… semi retired… don’t do a day job but I wouldn’t class myself as a professional musician. I don’t do YouTube / Instagram etc… I make records.
I’ve been doing this since 1988. I released my first record in 1991 and have had around 100 releases since. I’ve produced sample CDs for Zero-G in the past and I also did video game music & FX in the 90s.
The music I release is very heavily inspired by late 80’s/90’s underground dance music… electro, acid house, techno, house etc… As such I use a lot of the original hardware to get that original sound but mix it up with more modern stuff too.
So I suppose I’m a pro-hobbyist.
I’m not a techno producer and don’t do gigs so take with a grain of salt - but in 2025 I’d expect most of them to be on socials/youtube etc.
That said a number of members here gig regularly so although it’s not what it was in the 90’s there is still demand for live music in all its guises.
I have a feeling that this will be a studio tool more than anything though - it’s big and heavy and expensive so I’d avoid taking it to clubs with drunk goons slinging daiquiris around, personally.

I usually work in 2-8 bar loop and I prefer Elektron patterns over the 8s variations. It’s probably a matter of habit and what you’re doing though. I think the variation system is really nice for pure drums
I looked at that forum for the first time in years on this and …. fwiw it mainly reminded me of the reasons why I avoid that board like the plague more than it made me concerned about the box. About 10 years since I stopped visiting and it seems like nothing much has changed over there aside from the name. Still watching this, but also would be looking to other sources first.
Re touchscreen, also glad they’ve gone the way they’ve gone, the amount of physical controls makes it pretty much redundant anyway.
You can independently control the brightness of the lit LEDs as well as the “glow” which is the brightness of the “unlit” button illumination.
Edit: Unless I didn’t find it yet, you can’t change the brightness of the display. But it’s very nice and clear with good contrast and deep blacks so very legible without casting a huge glow anywhere.

Are the variations per instrument? Ie BD A with Clap C, Hat D etc? Then loads of variation within variation.
Not related, but if the TR-1000 UI is the new standard for Roland i already dream of a MC-101 (not 707 in my case because i would love a smaller form factor) with that nice layout/workflow, it would be a killer device with all the sound design/song editing being more hands on.
I dont own a mc-101 yet, the only thing making me think twice is the horrible UI.
Yeah, I’d absolutely love my sh4d to have this UI. Would pay a lot most likely, esp if the sounds were upgraded to acb and it also featured the sampler.
Ha, at least the keys and faders on the Tr1K are more silent … I had to stop bringing my Elektrons for bed jams long ago just for the loud clicking ) … apparently that disturbed the breast feeding 
variations are on pattern level. but within variation you decide what tracks to apply variation to of course
I got a response on modwiggler that slave to anything whether midi or via cv results in latency. I plan on using it as the master which has perfect timing but it’s definitely a huge defect.
