this is great stuff! well done

are S1 and P6 midi sync’d? I have not used the P6 yet with its sequencer, I have just used to launch samples to create sound collage, pheraps I should explore the midi sequencer too.

Cheers.

No sync between machines other than dialing in the same tempos and hitting play at roughly the right time.

I made some sequences or just sounds on the S-1’s, sampled them into the P-6 and then sequenced them into a loop, resampled the loop and then slowed it up and then just played an arp and some drones over the top while that was looping back.

Just with the nature of it, I did end up with samples all over the banks/pads and it got pretty confusing pretty quick when sequenced but I think it’s better in that case to use a load of patterns as ‘mute states’ rather than just being lazy and running it all together like I’d done.

S-1 > S-1 > P-6 > reaper via usb C.

It’s amazing how sometimes a machine like the P-6 comes along that’s just actual sort of fun to blindly experiment with, I definitely do things on this little banana punk that are nice and immediate that I’d struggle to do in my MPC Live 2 (which I adore).

thank you for sharing.

yes absolutely agree - you can do amazing things with the P6 that actually it proves to be difficult to do or not straightforward on other more expensive machines -

I did a liveset with a friend at the end of December with just a P6, an Octatrack all going through a 24 channel mixer Mackie with effects pedal here and there and the P6 was ruling it out actually sounded better than the Octatrack driven by my friend
I also found cofusing at some point remembering which sound was in each pad, I had 48 sample across all pads, but the performance went smooth and it was a joy to play - did not use the sequencer just played the pad in loop mode like a tape player

I need to get an S1…maybe 2 :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

P-6 is the perfect pair to a Syntakt when you want maximum bang for the least amount of table space. Many times, all you want to add to a Syntakt pattern is a couple oneshot drum sounds (hihat) or spot sounds (such as rave stabs, or sfx), and for such things, something like a Digitakt would be overkill.

Taetro posted this about pairing the P-6 with Ableton Move and it really got me thinking about pairing it with the SH-4D or another multitimbral synth. I’m trying to get a DN2 soon and that would be cool as well.

Sure, DN2 with the P6 would be hella flexible and fun as well

When I start another sequence a sample stops from the previous sequence, cuts off. I would like this sample to finnish to the end. Must be a setting (I hope) but I can’t find it. Does any one know how to?

could be the sample is set to Mono, hold shift and press GATE to change to poly

edit: actually i think this is what you are looking for

Yeah that’s it! Thanks!

In which scenario you would use Remain instead of Cut?

Do you mean the other way round?

‘Remain’ is almost always preferable to ‘Cut’, if the sound is anything like a pad, drone, or anything with a bit of release on it. Otherwise you’ll get a rough transition between patterns. Shorter sounds will cut off & stop anyhow

thank you, understood now

So into this little combo of S-1s and the P-6 these days. Just some free running loops.

I really hope that Roland make it so there is a ‘hook’ or pickup behaviour on the knobs because it’s so hard to try to mix different samples live as the level immediately jumps to the current knob position rather than waiting until the knob catches it. Shame but hey it’s Roland, why wouldn’t they include an almost game breaking flaw?

graat sounds!

is the drone a short snippet of a pad been looped in the right section?

I’ve updated my P-6 quick reference sheet, added a bunch more stuff.
I’ve also changed to PDF format, with one page per device. Which means I’ve added a reference for the S-1 as well

What I do is to check the current value of the parameter without modifying it by holding down the pattern button. Then without releasing it I move the knob to where I think that value is and finally release the pattern button to affect the parameter.

It’s not great, but much better than uncontrolled immediate changes and with a bit of practice you can make instant changes barely noticeable.

Quick question : has anyone been able to use the “hold” function while playing a note from an external MIDI controller ?

How does the hold function work?

The manual says that push the Keyboard button while pressing down the sample pad to activate the Hold mode but for some reason it is not working
Any ideas of what i am doing wrong?
