Roland P6 Aira Compact sampler

Really enjoying this little thing and getting to know it’s workflow. Thanks to those that posted reference cards above.

I might be missing it, but is there a way to move a chop from a chopped sample to a pad like you can copy whole samples between pads? I’ve just been making a blank pattern, assigning the chop to a step, then re-sampling to a pad. Feels like there has got to be a better way.

i havent found another way, i’ve been dreaming of the ability to assign which chop the main pad plays, that would be the final blow to make the p-6 perfect for me.

Here’s what I was talking about. It’s exciting to me even if it’s old hat to anyone else. Never got on with samples before this little thing.
There’s so much I never considered that feels possible.

I’m also struggling a little with muting specific pads or banks but I’ll get smoother with it.
Excuse my giant mitts covering the tiny box at times!

Are you using the A/B busses here? I can see MFX is lit and you’re tweaking those controls, but you mentioned you resampled through the resonator to get the effect.

Anyhow it sounds great, gives a real electro punch to the drums.

I also find muting occasionally hit and miss on the P-6, especially when you lose track of what bank & pad a sample is on

this

my currect workaround is to resample that specific chop I want as my main

Thanks!

It’s all going through MFX in the end. The melodic part is the same 16 step beat, but resampled previously while playing through the resonator. After it was sampled I switched MFX to bit crusher for the video recording and sequenced that previous sample of the beat to play on top of itself as a new tone.

I thought it was neato, and gives me a whole new perspective on what resampling can do even without going to other new material to sample!
I feel like a new chunk of my brain is unlocking. It’s fun!

And THIS is how you use a tool . Go deep, learn it like a MOFO. $200 and this is what you can do.! It’s all about the talent and time to learn what the box can do. Rock on!!! :notes::notes::fire:
You should contact Roland and have them use this as a product demo. It’s THAT good.

You’re wild! I just got it at Christmas but I have been following this thread a while picking up what I can.
Thank you; you’re incredibly encouraging!

In case anyone is curious, despite the dramatic name, “initialize system” doesn’t seem to do much at all.

All my samples, sequences, effect settings and motion data remained after doing it

I’m having trouble using the P-6 as an external FX device. It worked previously and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Cabling is correct, and I can hear samples played from the P-6. It’s just that my sent audio (from the op-xy) isn’t going through the FX loop.

I have pressed MFX+LO-Fi to route the input to the EFX bus, and I have checked the levels in the P6’s settings. Any other ideas?

You can route the USB input as well as the line in through the FX. Trying routing both and see if that changes anything.

mfx+lo-fi toggles between dry (bus.a) and wet (efh) for the mix input

I tried that. Everything appears to be set up right.

youre using the mix output of the p-6 or usb output? and you can hear the dry opxy from this output?

but sample pads are being effected?

I’m using the trs in and out in the P6, not usb.

I can hear the P6’s own sounds through the XY, and the P6’s own samples are getting effected.

I cannot hear the dry OP-XY sound through the P6. I’m getting nothing. Previously, it was all working as expected.

Sounds like something on the xy’s end then, no?

If I use the XY with other fx it works fine though. But I will double check just in case. :+1:

Alright so I randomly saw this on reverb but I’m sure it also exists elsewhere. Somebody might have already shared it but I’m not going to go into every Aira thread to verify so apologies if this is not new to you.

I saw these aira stands which have a phone holder attached for people who use their phone / ipad as part of their music making process. It’s not revolutionary new technology but it still seems pretty useful for utilitarian purposes or facetime while jamming idk take it for what it is.

I’m not going to link the sale but if you search p-6 iPad it should come up, it’s probably on Etsy as well but I didn’t confirm that and hopefully nobody has already shared this three posts up from mine.

That’s rad. If I used my phone more it’d be in the cart.
