I just listened to that… if the JD-08 can give me those dance moves then I’ll defo be getting one!! More seriously, to respond to your point about creating classic analogue-style plucks sounds - the JD-08 absolutely has a bunch of the traditional analogue style waveforms and can totally do those sounds. It might be a little more involved to program them and it won’t sound quite the same but that’s a question of taste. But, for example, you could programme that type of sound with 3 of the JD-08’s layers and then use the 4th layer to mix in a more accoustic waveform but low in the mix and then maybe played well above (or below!!) it’s natural range and it’s starting to get a more unique flavour. Anyways, those sort of things are where I think it’ll be interesting…
That said, the JX-08 does look super-nice too… I really, really couldn’t justify both. Unfortunately.
I know, I can’t either. How about you get the JD-08 and I get the JX-08. I’m super curious about the possibilities of the JD-08 and I’m sure you’re right that it can create some more unusual subtractive synth-like sounds that I’ll envy.
If the JD-08 had the Vintage Synth waveforms with the JD-990 synthesis improvements then I’d be all over it. The JX looks more interesting to me, if it sounds close to the originals in the flesh.
I hope we get more demos of the jd-08. I want one but have a D05 and think the sound quality on that is just barely where it needs to be as is, and that one is ported right from the original. So if this one is made from the zen platform, is it going to be missing even more of that sweet high end? Or will it just be missing something different? The demos sound good but they hurt my ears a little compared to the original JD-800 videos
The pendulum is swinging for me and I’m now more intrigued by the JD-08 than the JX-08. It seems the JD can sound really amazing. Those seemingly limited 100+ waves and effects chain can be manipulated and combined in ways that can generate a pretty wide palette of sounds. At the core, I’m more interested in more traditional analog subtractive synthesis, but it seems the JD can actually produce most of what I like about analog too. So, it just seems to be a bit more versatile, while the JX is a bit more squarely in the VA space. That said, the JX has some cool effects like distortion that didn’t exist in the original JX-8P, so I’m sure that synth can stretch beyond the classic sounds too. I guess I’ll have until January to make up my mind.
Ordered the jx08 from Sweetwater 2 days ago and it somehow came today! Much faster than usual!
This thing is nuts! I’m a big fan of and have played all the boutiques. They keep leveling up. This thing is so powerful and really deep. Can’t wait to try the jd08, this next generation of boutiques are fantastic.
You have no idea how much I love this song. <3. Surprised to hear it posted on Elektronauts. Didn’t know that was a synth. Always thought it was a guitar. Crazy.
