Ah, that was easy to solve. MENU → MIDI → SYNC and there from AUTO to INT.
Probably because all the Youtubers you’ve seen are doing that in hopes of maintaining their view counts and/or attracting more likes/subscribes.
you’ve got to find somebody who really doesn’t give a shit about YT numbers and just wants to show off some cool unique shit they found on the JX.
Another option is to just go ahead and buy it, and find your own nostalgia-free sounds on it. Shouldn’t be that hard, given it has all those onboard FX that the vintage version never had.
My JD-08 is due to arrive Monday (from Sweetwater). I’ll report back once I’ve had a chance to tinker.
Ooooh the Jd08s are finally shipping?!
Did anyone else order from Thomann? It said it’d be in stock in 2-3 weeks yesterday, now it says 7-9 weeks
I’d rather not buy before I know it’s capable of making sounds I’ll like to use. While I enjoy the sound of the JX-8P, it’s maybe 20% of the full palette of synth sounds I generally enjoy. I’m into synthwave so I could certainly make use of its niche sound capabilities.
But I’m honestly looking at it mostly because I’m interested in a little portable arp and sequencer toy that I can use to noodle on, otherwise I can’t really justify buying another synth because I have a Korg Minilogue XD that is more than capable of approximating most synth sounds that I like.
So for me, the JX-08 isn’t the most interesting synth I could think of, sonically. What makes it interesting is the bi-timbrality, 2-track sequencer, the portability and the ability to be powered by batteries and usb-c. And of course that it’s a proper synth, unlike the MC-101 which is more of a preset box with more range and easier programming of 4 tracks. I’m basically choosing between the two as a bedside sketch pad kind of device.
If anyone here receives their device and feels like demoing them with no goals of getting more subscribers, I’d really appreciate it!
I have a JX on order from Thomann. 7-9 weeks?! [sigh]
My order confirmation mail said 28.01.2022 back then, hope it comes early
I just cancelled. Other places have them stock.
Here you go: Roland JX-08 & JD-08 - #216 by plusn
My cousin is going to bring it to me in the summer anyways so I have some time to wait
Wow, incredibly savage review.
Gear reviews in 2022 are about to get metal.
@ddiamond84 I got super lucky pre-ordered with my SW rep the morning they were announced. The demand is clearly with JX not JD so that likely helped my chances.
I got the jx, but I genuinely thought the demand was way higher with the jd.
Ok, I did see you thought that JD-08 might be better for your because it has a similar looking sequencer and also an arpeggio button.
JX-08 however has FX not on the JD-08 like Bit Crusher, Lofi Comp, and Fuzz. That’s why some of us see as much potential for non-vintage tones on this thing as the JD-08.
I thought of ordering the JX-08 before I came across the MC-707 discounted. While it costs quite a bit more than either Boutique, that’s turned out to be the right move for me. It gives me access to all the Zen Core synth parameters, unlike the 101, has a better sequencer interface, and the diversity of Zen Core sounds is much, much wider than I’d anticipated. And whenever I want I can export projects, sounds, etc. to the 101 if I want to load it up with batteries and take it to the park or whatever.
If you’re into SynthWave I’d say go for the JU-06A, which will give you instant satisfaction. The JX-08 can get similar sounds, but it’s far more versatile so is capable of so much more.
I thought the JD would have those effects too? The Zenology version does and they are the standard Zenology effect set I think aren’t they? The JD-800 multi is in this section as a choice which includes has the 4 original JD Effects but can be swapped out.
I hope so otherwise it looks unlikely they would be preset compatible…
Both the JX and the JD have an arp and bi-timbrality. So you could program two parts using the step sequencer and then play/jam live over it using the arp. If I understand correctly, that is. It’s way less versatile than a MC-101 of course, but it compensates with a deep synth engine.
Indeed, the new effects should in theory be able to take the JX into more modern territory. I’m looking forward to seeing some people showcasing what it’s capable of.
Off-topic, but I had no idea the MC-707 is discontinued! I’m choosing between a new (usb-c) boutique and the MC-101 for the portability factor, so the 707 wouldn’t be an option for me anyway, even though it has a much deeper synth engine. Already have an MPC One for the music production part, I’m mainly looking for a sketchpad kind of device with the added bonus of offering a new synth to incorporate into my music.
Yeah, the JX-08 is much more versatile thanks to the effects and bi-timbrality, so it’s a given choice vs the JU-06A for me. It’s between the JX-08, JD-08 and the MC-101 for me.
The JX-08 and MC-101 can both generate a lot of synthwave sounds. The JD-08 maybe less so, but then again the pads it can make are amazing. With the MC-101 you get a bit of all sorts of Roland synth sounds, including many Juno-106 presets. Hard to choose!
