Rodec MX Modular Mixer

Rodec is back with a new concept for a mixer that includes 500 Modules. Maybe it has been mentioned in the Superbooth thread as they´ll be showcasing it there but I think it deserves its own thread especially since Rodec has a reputation for building high quality mixers.

My guess is 2.5 OP1 Fields.

Just think how many splash modular bags you could buy for that…

Rodec has that nice hi fi sheen to it. I own the restyler and the sheen is like SSL SuperAnalogue but with their own flavor.

So I expect this setup to be in the 5k range but also expect the sound to comparable to SSL / Neve Portico / etc

For sure, Rodec makes some great stuff. I know it will sound good. I like the design of the case as well. And I think I am close with my guesstimate of 2.5 OP-1 fields.

Since it‘s a modular approach the final price isn‘t really predictable I guess. I‘m curious to see what the price for the basic version will be and how many modules and what functionality this version will have.
I have only one Rodec mixer and it‘s the Scratchbox, their only 2 channel battle style mixer for turntablists which was never their target market and still they absolutely nailed it with this one. To this day the crossfader is unmatched for my taste but the PSU sucks hard and is the only reason I currently can‘t use this mixer because there is no replacement since they used a proprietary connector.

Woah, this looks like it could be amazing with a built-in interface/recall etc as well. Agessss til the release time though!

Don’t think Rodec tries to get this “warm” sound caused by distortion. Rodec always tried to get the best sound you could get for the money. The old models sounded like they could in the 80s and 90s. The last MX series had these wonderful precise Burr Brown Opamps. I think the basis of this mixer will sound as more or less flat to give you the opportunity to design the sound with the modules you choose.

Funny that this product comes 10 years after I showed the German distributor a few photos of my finished prototype of a fully costumizable modular DJ mixer. System 500 is the only existing standard for modular equipment that was applicable for such a device. I realized that in 2010, but did not go that way because it’s still a bit unhandily. But well, it seems there is no alternative.

Very nice to see that THEY realized such a thing.

There actually was another company that made something similar a number of years ago, but I don’t recall who it was. It was a smaller company, and a bit expensive. If I remember correctly in the $6,000 - $7,000 range. Although I feel the Rodec will be a bit pricey as well, they may be able to keep the cost a little lower and move more units.

Listen to me very carefully…this is very important. Do the buttons clicky clack?
Ask them if they are open to trades.

Still $6k-$8k without preamps… I don’t really see the advantages compared to a Big Six.
I dig the 100 series concept though

yes they do

I’m sure this is great quality, you can tell by looking at it. I just can’t fathom spending that amount of $$$ and being satisfied with what you get.
They popped this onto YouTube two weeks ago and I just saw it:

I just want a reissue of the Restyler

I just found the receipt for it. I got it for 399 bucks but stupidily sold it a few years ago. Biggest mistake of my gear selling spree.
