Reverse always too early

Hello.

I have my Octatrack setuped on channel 7 Incoming audio and on channel 8 recorded audio. So I can make transitions with it. That works good.

The only thing that really bothers me. If I play the recording on track 8 reverse (rate -64), It comes actually to early. How can I avoid this?

I tried with and without delay compensation, does not matter. I always work with a 4 bar Pattern.

Thank you

Nobody has an idea?

Thx

Is time stretch option in secondary menu deactivated?
What if you set rate to -63? Does it work correctly?

Hello.

Yes -63 and the time stretch option I need to check, when I’m back in the studio.

No it also does not work with -63 and Timestretch off. Now its to late and “unround” at the Looping Point.

I think those were alternate solutions and not meant to be combined.

If Timestretch is off, does -64 work?

I tried also Combinations with Time Stretch Off, On …, -64, -63 …

Timestretch off and -64 does not work, actually the “to early latency” stays same compared to Timestretch Auto/Norm/Beat

What do you mean it plays too early? My guess is the audio plays as it should but you kinda would want it to play a little later, at least this has been my experience with reversed drum loops. If this is the case, you could try to set the start parameter somewhere near 127 or use microtiming to push the trig forward a little. Would be helpful to see or hear what you mean exactly.

Ok. My Setup is like this:
Midi: Ableton - Multiclock - Cirklon - Octatrack
Audio: DJ Mixer - Octatrack In - Ableton
Octatrack: T7 Thru Machine; T8 Recording Flex

Picture:
Track 1 Shows the Signal (from my DJ Mixer) running thru the Octatrack
Track 2 Shows the recorded Signal (Octatrack T8)
Track 3 Shows the recorded and reversed Signal (Octatrack T8)

And sorry for the confusion, it seems that the reversed Signal is actually to late or something like shortened.

If I now play with the Microtiming, the unreversed Signal (Photo Track2) is also effected and will loose its correct place.

Thank you

Can you also describe your workflow, how you record, flip the wav, etc. ?

The recording seems delayed indeed, you can see the silence at the end of the reversed recording.
I suppose you recorded T7 and not AB / CD, which implies a delay.

I’d try microtiming on the rec trig or Flex trig.

I actually did the " DJ Like" Setup more then one year ago. And I copied it in every Pattern of the Octatrack. I try to remember things. On every Pattern I can record a four bar Loop (Pressing T8+Record button1). And I can crossfade between Track 7 (The Input Signal) and Track 8 (The recorded Signal).

Track 7 Thru Machine, 1 (4bar) Trig on the first of 64 Steps
Track 8 Flex Machine, 1 (4bar) Trig on the first of 64 Steps

@sezare56 I don’t know what I record T7 or AB, how can I see that? And you are right, the recorded Signal in Octatracks Edit Menu looks delayed. BUT the forward recorded Signal fits very good (Photo 2) but the reversed Signal is delayed. If I now Change the Microtiming on the Step, the forward Signal is delayed an the reversed Signal is on Point.

In T8 REC SETUP 1.

Isn’t there microtiming already ?

In T8 I record AB, SRC3 is “empty”. Then I guess I record AB if I press T8+Rec.

No, there is no Microtiming.

Did you check rec trigs and flex trigs ?

what is FOUT setting in Rec Setup 2 ? Should be 0.

I checked the Trig (Propably Play Trig) On T7 and T8 no Microtiming. And other trigs I don’t use.

It is 0

What is QREC setting ?

I left the studio already conking back tomorrow. But out of my head, should be 4 bars, or something that give me 4 bars.

And I don’t use rec trig’s, because I start recording with pressing t8+rec
