I would love to hear detailed feedback from people using this!
Is it intuitive to use?
How is automation?
Any problems?
I’m mostly interested in the sequencing side!
Anyone have this and Hapax and can compare?
To get loads of information you could either join the discord server or their own commmunity on their website., which has just been opend.
Do any Reliq users have updated thoughts or opinions? It looks like there has been some really solid updates recently. My unplanned purchase will be arriving very soon.
I’m surprised I’m not seeing more talk about the matrix mixer/switcher. Maybe functionality is sparse now with mute being introduced but I don’t think I know of another massive analog matrix mixer, especially not with sequencing. I’m not first in line to get one right now but considering this was the stuff of dreams not long ago it gives me hope in a way.
Well you can sequence the Erica Synths Matrix Mixer via MIDI, but it only has 16x16 IO and three levels of attenuation.
Three levels of attenuation is minimalistic but still useful in a pinch and 16x16 is still a lot. I remember programmable switches sold as patch bays but they were very expensive, had terrible UI and were not clickless.
Patching all sound sources from a eurorack into reliq and then back to the rack to patch normally should bring lots of great optionality for switching sounds around to a patch.
A lot of action is taking place on the discord server. So anyone who is on the search for more information might have look there.
this guy goes over the reliq and how it fits into his setup, positive first impressions. Does end with a lockup >.<

Nice, experiencing the UI/UX of the Matrixbrute without needing a Matrixbrute or similar.
Sure, there’s probably Vital for expansive mod matrices, but it’s not that 1-to-1 with the Matrixbrute and other analog synths with mod matrices, and of course, this is aimed at those who want to mess around with hardware for music production primarily or exclusively.
Hey, do you still have the Reliq?
Have you ever used Hapax, and if so, which would you say is the better midi sequencer?
I’m thinking of selling my Hapax and investing in the Reliq, but after reading the Reliq forums and road maps, it seems Reliq is way behind Hapax in terms of functional maturity, but looks like it has more potential in the long run - obviously I’m just basing this on reading the manual, watching a few videos and reading the forums.
Many thanks
Too be honest, I was holding off really diving in on the Reliq until the OS matured a bit. Recent updates have added a lot of new functionality according to the release notes, but I haven’t had a chance to dive back into the Reliq. Realistically it may not be until the holidays when I can go deep into the Reliq’s new features.
Hapax is a great sequencer and right now it’s clearly the more ready for prime time of the two. But the Hapax has nothing like the matrix mixing capability of the Reliq, and the Reliq has more capabilities for integrating into my eurorack setup (Squarp would probably like you to buy both a Reliq and Hermod+!).
Remember that the Reliq is HUGE plus you gotta figure in the breakout box though you might choose to rack that in your Eurorack case, assuming you have the hp.
I guess my current suggestion would be to stick with the Hapax for now, unless you have a specific use case for the matrix mixer and CV power of the Reliq.
I’m dreaming of it too!
I love my Hapax, but even after all the updates it can be buggy still. The devs seem like lovely people but they are slow to add stuff.
This:
Ffs, why are we limited to the MIDI matrix on Hapax, only 4 slots, it’s simply not enough. Most devices have almost everything available to MIDI.
If Reliq catches up in terms of functionality, I might make the switch! I won’t even use the break-out box!
Thanks for the insights, and I’m inclined to agree with you on the sticking with the Hapax approach for now. I don’t have any euro rack or anything particularly complex. I used to have a room full of hardware and then sold absolutely everything to just go ITB, but I missed the Elektron boxes and other synths that I used to have so invested in some more hardware, but kept it very minimal, on purpose.
I prefer using Hapax instead of Elektron type sequencers, and so chose the synth hardware side of things with that in mind. It’s great for hardware and plugins.
The things that are sorely missing from Hapax are:
- having more than eight drum lanes - which I think Reliq can do,
- being able to store midi files in a nested filing structure - not sure if Reliq is able to do this yet
- only having a physical 8×16 grid to play with - obviously the is Reliq’s BIG draw for me and I’m okay with it’s physical size.
Aside from that, Hapax is very intuitive and creative to use.
Agree that the devs are lovely, but you are right in that they can be slow. I bought Hapax when it first came out and was asking for 16 drum lanes in 2022. I just bought Hapax again as saw they improved things by increasing the total patterns from 8 to 16, but I mistook that for 16 drum lanes, so it still has the same shortcoming as before. Many have asked for the same improvement so I’m sure they will implement it.
The midi file nesting is also something that is needed, and I’m sure again that this can be implemented, as many have asked for it.
Hapax is well accomplished though, aside from the above.
Its a mere layout question, you could have assigned two tracks to access the 16 drum voices. I dont feel that the development team is slow at squarp. I just recently updated to 2.21 which was deliverd mid of this year, and there was 2.13 at February 2025 - we got the new shifter fx, and from what i can tell, they are working on virtualizing the usb midi ports, so more controllers can be addresses - i think that is not an easy task - so it may take them a while untill that gets a public release.
(And i saw an add where they try to hire an additonal dev to their team, surly getting somone on board takes a while before he gets useful, especially in such a specialized enviroment, where he has to work on a very close hardware project, its hard to find someone for it.)
They are doing a great job.
