Record polyphonic aftertouch on DTII

Hello! New here. Just got myself a DTII and a polyend synth.
For now i am able to record midi notes while playing the poly and then have the DTII basically playing the synth. Is there any way that i can also record the other cc messages that the synth sends? All if any at all.

It looks like sending CC from the polyend synth is rather convoluted, you should check out this thread and confirm you’re able to send CC in the way that you imagine you will be before trying to record the parameter lock data to DTII.

I’ve literally just read that thread now so I don’t know any more than you do, but it seems that the knobs send CC and you can view the CC numbers for the control knobs in the midi settings section of polyend synth under control change mapping. It looks like you need an engine open which uses however many knobs you want as active controllers, they are only active based on how many knobs are active in that engine.

It looks like it can send notes and cc parameter movements as a controller from the interface, but I don’t see anything about it’s internal parameters generating CC. You could hook it up to a midi monitor while playing it and see if any CC is coming out of it, because if there isn’t, then there’s nothing to record.

If you confirm that it’s sending the information you expect it to, then depending on what you want to record, you should be able to record that CC automation, however I’m pretty sure polyphonic aftertouch is not supported by DTII’s sequencer. I believe it will only be able to register a single, monophonic aftertouch value.

That’s all I know, you might have to try the polyend forums or maybe someone in the dedicated polyend synth thread can help if you try there.

Its the first time im messing with synths/sequencers and midi so sorry for the question. Seems pretty obvious now, but it never occurred to me that everything you do on a device is not somehow transmitted

No, it’s totally confusing that it’s not like that if you’ve never messed with hardware before, and some devices might be that way so don’t be hard on yourself, just with this particular device I’m not sure it works like that. You can get a midi monitor for free and if you send the output of the Synth into the monitor program, you should be able to tell if it generates any CC or other data. I can’t say that it doesn’t, I would just encourage that you make certain it does before you put too much effort into trying to record the cc output. Like I said, if it’s not outputting any, then nothing will be recorded. The physical knobs do seem to generate CC data so that’s something, but from what I gather, the documentation for the hardware is pretty light in regard to midi implementation.

If it has USB midi you might be able to get a midi monitor app on your phone even, so don’t give up without a little more checking into it.

Hi, the DTII can’t record any incoming CCs (Pitch Bend, Mod, Aftertouch etc). It can send them, but only on a per-step basis, not as a continuous stream.

So, you can only control parameters externally and not record those movements for parameters with CCs like filter or level etc? Aftertouch is not something I use so I didn’t know it couldn’t receive.

That sucks, but i hope for an updahahahaha (im learning the memes).
Btw i hooked the synth on my laptop and i saw that it emits messages. Couldnt find the specific pc/cc but yeah.

You might be able to send external CCs that control params of the internal sampler tracks (I’ve never tried it, would record per step if so), but it’s not possible to record external CCs for external gear into MIDI tracks.
