just saw him at superbooth. And it felt like 3 young teenager (with Tom Oberheim and Markus Ryle) talking about music electronics and synthesizers.

I’m in shock. Speechless. His designs are what got me into synths. I was only playing my P5 last night…

RIP Dave. My heart goes out to his family and the folks at Sequential.

How random. Just noticed the frontage of a local coffee shop. Calls itself frequency because they have an emphasis on music. ‘David Smith’ is just the legacy signage.

His contribution is huge and he wasn’t showing any signs of slowing down.
Can’t imagine ever parting with my P12 or OB6.

Very sad and unexpected news, one of the true pioneers and a real trail blazing career. His lifelong passion and innovation are legendary… RIP
