I just added a second one External Instrument to the Drum Rack. This works because each of the 6 tracks is a different Midi channel…
But I believe I now understand (sorry)… So in a different use case, you want Drums Racks to trigger everything on a single channel, using only 1 instance of External Instrument?
I know from past experience placing an external instrument on every drum rack is CPU intensive. I’ll play around with this… I swear there’s another workaround, but I can’t remember, or I could be completely wrong too.
I remembered… Hopefullly this works on SA. I can’t try it out until later, but it should work.
Track 1: Drum Rack
Track 2: External Instrument
Set the I/O on the track to receive Midi from Track 1 (Drum Rack)
Set the External Instrument to the Midi Channel you want to transmit on, and of course the audio input to receive audio.
I couldn’t wait… I needed to try it out and it does work
*And the only issue I encountered is that Track needs to remain armed to receive Midi from Track 1. - That part is annoying and I’m hoping I’m missing something because that’s not something I needed to do on Live.
Have you guys been able to map a midi controller like faderfox ec4 or launchcontrol xl to control parameters in push 3? Should be possible. It’s just that i can’t find a way to do mapping on the push like one does in Ableton.
Did you figure out a solution to using a mic with Push 3? I think I am going to need to buy a new mic and am looking for suggestions - or even better, actual experiences.
I’ve been using a Shure Beta 58A dynamic with an XLR to 1/4 inch TRS cable when away from the rest of my gear. Similar to an SM58 but a little louder and with a more useful/pleasing frequency response to my ears. No 48v needed. As with condensers I’ve tried with separate preamp + 48v, it still needs a boost within Push for monitoring, so I have it at max input gain with a Utility to boost the volume to taste.
For the first time ever, I have made an almost complete song that I actually like with just one device. Realistically I could bounce it as is and it would be decent, but I really prefer adding some polish. I just need to throw this in Ableton to do a few things (some drum EQ/effects, clean up the arrangement, transitions), and it’ll be done. I was never able to do this with an MPC, Syntakt, or Digitakt (although I can get close with the last two).
As I mentioned earlier in this thread I ordered a custom Push 3 stand from Coda Handmade, a small shop in Georgia that has an Etsy presence (https://www.etsy.com/market/codahandmade).
I basically asked for a version of their existing Push 2 stand, but customized for the geometry of the Push 3 and with a lower angle of incline. Here are pics of the stand I got. It ships unassembled but assembly just involves lining up pre-drilled holes and screwing things together. I got it in oak (oiled).
It was very reasonably priced, looks good, and is at the perfect angle for my ergonomic preferences. Would recommend!
That’d be perfect for me. I’d want space under it though to slide my keyboard out of the way or run some cables from a little controller. Think they could do something like that?
From comments on Etsy, and my interactions with them, it seems like they do a fair amount of custom work. I’d reach out to them with a quick sketch of what you’re thinking of. If they’re busy it might take a few days for them to respond, but I found all my interactions with Tanner (who I think is the main person) very pleasant and helpful.
So the height is 3 inches? I need to measure my Ikea laptop stand that I use for the Push. My mild issue with the Push’s size on the Ikea is that it can be tough to completely fit it on my Output desk. The configuration I use is Push is on the right side and angled a bit so it faces me. Opposite side is laptop on stand doing the same. This lets me have access to my patchay in the middle.
I am not sure if a bit more angle would save deskspace or even matter much. I do like that angle you have, I am not into a really sharp high angle with the Push.
Sitting on the stand, the rear of the Push is at a height of ~123mm. The front is at about 45mm.
So the total rise is just over 3 inches, but you need to account of the support below. Pics below:
I’m going to try a bit later with the Tula mic. I think it should work since I’ve used it before with Morphagene. I’m not a fan of this mic, but its size makes it easy to work with.
Otherwise, I have a feeling this inexpensive ($80) mic would work in a minimal setup. It has its own pre-amp, no phantom power needed.
Just saw it on Ricky Tinez’ video, and saw it was coming in hot on the DT. I might pull the trigger, but I’ll probably wait until 4th of July for a likely 10% off discount (if they’re not excluding it).
