Push 3 Users Thread

As far as I can tell Sampler instruments work as expected in standalone mode, which is great. I do hope we get a Kontakt player for standalone soon though. That’s probably the main plug-in I’d be really keen to have.

In the meantime does anyone know of a tool to convert kontakt instruments to ableton sampler?

Aha i see!
So you want to power push over usb c only.
Is your push standalone or controller version?

Sure Stimming mentioned in his review that it needs at 65W usb connection to power it

Controller version.

I’ve even bought and tried a 100w cable but no luck! Narrowing down until problem would be easier if ur Ableton cable worked though. I could be massively unlucky with the 6 or 7 USB C cables I’ve tried at home but without a working Ableton cable I can’t be sure!

Yeah had read that before so bought a cable on Friday to hopefully close that one out. Can never quite be sure with stuff off amazon but it claims 100w at least.

Hmm ok you have controller version, so then you should be able to power push with usb c cable which comes out of the push box.

Have you tried different usb ports, computers or even simple usb charger to power on push? I see that you have tried different usb c cables too…
I know its obvious question but just trying narrow down what could be the issue here…

That’s strange… it should work from the off. Hope it works out

Is there somewhere to report bugs to?

Can someone either correct me or confirm this:

When renaming tracks, if you push the main jog wheel left it skips backwards through the characters, but there’s no way to skip back to the right… meaning you can’t delete characters past the cursor point. (??)

My Push 3, which is a Standalone version, works in the following ways:

  1. In Standalone, powered by the battery, no USB or DC power connections

  2. In Standalone, the DC power connection charges the battery and powers the device; connecting Push 3 to the power supply for my MacBook Pro using the USB cable that came with the Push 3 also charges the battery and powers the device.

  3. In Controller mode, the USB C cable that came with the Push 3 and another halfway decent USB C cable I had on hand will both power the Push

I hope this helps.

Yeah tried all 3 ports on my Mac and the Ableton cable doesn’t work. Tried that cable with other devices and still doesn’t work.

The bit that makes me worry a little that it’s a hardware issue of some sort is that my Push 2 works fine on usb power.

Push 3 will connect to the Mac only if DC power is plugged in. That’s consistent across all cables I’ve tried (and ports) with the Ableton cable being the only exception

Best place to report bugs and other issues would be ableton support.

Hmm while renaming, pushing jogwheel left or right should move the cursor left or right.

Ah weird, ok I see, thanks!
It has different levels of force to move right, it works going right if you press harder (a tap moves it left, a firm push moves it right…).

My jog wheel lets me move the cursor left and right.

I did notice that my jog wheel was slightly coming off the right edge. I had to push it down full to seat it.

Try pushing down harder on the encoder to seat it fully. Mine was the same way and I noticed it was slightly lifted up on one side. After popping it into the socket properly it has worked perfectly. But my master volume encoder…that still borked.

I’ve spent today resisting all temptation to use the Push 3 in controller mode and switch to desktop when I get stuck, so I have to find the answer in standalone… and it’s starting to feel natural and I’m really digging it.

Weirdly, I think this is going to give my Push 2 a new lease of life too… I feel like I’m finally figuring out the whole Push approach atm.

Thank you for this, but he doesn’t show the battery compartment which I was more interested in.
From the looks of everything else in there, a “replaceable” battery (with the same size and all) is probably a better wording than “upgradable” battery.

Ut I’ll wait to see someone else pull it apart more.

Hmm… not sure if #3 is true. I just had Push 3 suddenly shutdown while in the middle of use in Controller mode. It was plugged into my MBP with a non-Ableton cable and the battery had gone down to 33%.

Can’t seem to check the battery read out when in Control mode.

Here’s my USB C power charging results with Push 3 Standalone Model:

  • Battery charges when power supplied by included power adapter

  • Battery charges when power supplied via USB C – Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable supplied by 96W Apple charger

  • In standalone mode, Push 3 battery does not charge when attached to Macbook Pro (M1 Pro) running on battery or powered by USB C

  • In connected mode, the battery charge indicator shows “NA” so it’s not clear if it’s running on battery or via power from attached Macbook Pro

When going from Connected mode to Stand Alone mode I find myself needing to reboot the Push 3 to get audio output working correctly. Anyone else experiencing this?

It does show the battery compartment starting at about 31:00.

He doesn’t open up the battery itself which is sealed, but that seems like an unrealistic expectation for a brand new piece of gear as I’m guessing this would pretty much guarantee you’ve voided your warranty. Maybe iFixit will tackle this.
