Push 3 Users Thread

I’ve still got the issue, even after reauthorising Live a few times on the device and on the laptop. Opened a ticket maybe a week ago, still waiting to hear back.

Do you have the similar experiences with your P3? I’ve found that link on the Ableton forum.

I have been getting ready to play at a festival in 2 weeks - I just wanted to share my excitement and my mind literally blown…
Got the Fors synths running along side Perkons and bit of Machinedrum.
I also have ADAT connected under the desk where many other gear get connected and sampled into Push.

This is a really insane setup for me… I have never been this excited since 2010… I can do all the Hardware hands on type of editing on this setup like step sequencing, triggering scenes and just simply jamming.

Right next to this desk, I have laptop with Live running - so I can switch there and do detail editing such as midi CC assign, track management etc.

In the studio I usually run Push in Control mode to have access to editing on Live. Then I upload the Set to Push Standalone and there it is… Of course, I need to make sure that I am not running stuff on Live that does not run on Standalone.

Yeah I think they just didn’t think of it. They wrote their software for computer screens and when added the pages for push, just assigned pages and prameters in fitting orders.
I hope having a standalone push now in their portfolio, they go through their software and rethink „decisions“ with that in mind. I bet they will but that won’t be their main focus, as long as major issues occurs for people.
I’d rather turn different knobs but have it not crash for people using it live, than the other way around.

I appreciate you sharing these observations. I guess the Syntakt is a bit like a reference standard for consistency across pages since the whole instrument was designed with that concept in mind. Agree it would be great if Ableton spent some time to improve consistency but like you say, it will likely be a while before they can focus on those things.

I honestly dont know if they will ever do it. I put in a feature request on the beta forum like 5 years ago to improve the Push UI to make things consistent and it wasnt upvoted.

I ended up getting Predator from Isotonik to do the customizing and have vst support for Push but compatibilty broke a while back. So I just gave up the battle.

I mean they had 7 years to improve the UI and the majority of devices havent changed much during that time.

I really hope I am wrong though.

How is everybody going with monitoring latency?
I just plugged my harp into the Push 3 for the first time and with the input latency my audio is way off grid.

This is resolved by turning monitoring off while recording but I’m hoping there is an easier fix.

Ensure Push 3 is registered in your Ableton account, once there re-authorize Live on computer should fix it, BUT Push 3 has to be registered in your Ableton account first.

Are you using computer or stand alone? What buffer size are you using?

Played a show yesterday (using only P3 standalone with 1 mic input), had two crashes.

Another show on Thursday, hopefully I find the reason for this issue before then. If not, it’s back to the 1010blackbox.

I wouldn’t dare bring such a complex setup on stage at this point. Best of luck to you, may you find all bugs before the festival!

Standalone.
I’ve played around with buffer sizes but it’s still not great. Especially with such a plucky instrument.

I just went back to my MacBook and with some wizardry I could get down to 2ms round trip latency which is great but that’s computer only.

Sorry to hear your crashes!
If you can, please submit your reproducible bug reports to Ableton.
I guess that’s the risk of using any “new” tech in its first 6 months…

For me, i find the standalone reasonably stable when mainly focusing on launching scenes n playing on midi controller (which is all i need when playing out). Sure, i know some ways to crash it - i just dont do those moves. Also, im only taking perkons, push n its midi controller, i dont think that’s complex setup?

I would say im nearly half way through the set and i do not see crashes so far when practicing.
Im mainly using ableton plugins, fors m4l devices and some ableton packs along with perkons going through a track.

Which Fors synths are you using?
Guessing that you program your patches on the computer then load the presets on to the standalone?
I might give that a shot tomorrow!

I’ve got a Push listed when I look at my account on the Ableton site, so I assume it’s registered. I’ve already authorised the standalone and successfully accessed and installed my Suite content. I’ve already re-authorised Live several times after that within the software on my computer. Am I missing anything?

Some new observations:

  • I cannot replicate the crash in an empty set on the Push.
  • When i recover the crashing set (why am I asked to do this twice?), it stops crashing. So I save it like that. But as soon as I reload it, it starts crashing again.

The crashing set is absolutely minimalistic. I didn’t use any M4L plugins, although I normally rely on them heavily.

I’ve sent the report in, with the video above.

I never encountered this bug while jamming the set at the studio. Not even at the soundcheck before the gig. A classic case of the demo effect, combined with Murphy’s law?

But is Push 3 listed?

Super valuable review. Thanks!

It just says “Push”, like this, nothing below it. Is this the same as what others see in their account? Did you do anything to register your Push aside from authorising on the device itself (if you have standalone)?

It would be soooo fun to see you play live. I wonder if you ever come to the US for shows? Watching your videos on Electron boxes is like watching a magician, or a chef–your muscle memory and instant creativity are pure joy to watch, even though I know I will never get to that point, which is fine, it’s all aspirational to me.

I had the same thought but the P3 is nowhere near as capable and fun to use as the Hapax for sequencing.
