complete adat newbie here…
so this would be a working, decent and most of all affordable solution for pushs few ins and outs?
would it also allow to route different Live tracks/channels to different physical outputs?
I’ve been looking for a smaller ADAT breakout for my RME babyface for years now. This is the most affordable option. It’s behringer, so, yeah.

Next level is Focusrite Octopre.
I would absolutely love to use my Tascam Model 12 via USB into the Push 3. Hopefully an update will make this an option on down the line.
Good chance that this will come, especially given the fact it’s already within the desktop version.
I just want 8 extra line inputs, since the onboard inputs can take a dynamic mic. outputs are less important to me except when thinking about sending CV from Push3.
I’ve got a Focusrite 18i20 Mk3 in a rack already hooked up to a patch bay with most of my synths connected. I’m assuming I can just set up routing in Focusrite Control and save it to the unit and I’ll be good to go if I want to run it with Push 3 standalone. Haven’t used ADAT before - will find out how painless/tricky it is this week.
I’m super interested. I’ve been looking for a solution like this, I was hoping the Maschine plus was it but it has minimal synth programming on board, loading user samples is a headache and working on projects between the standalone unit and computer is cumbersome.
The MPE stuff is neat but I’m not freaking out about it I mean it’s cool and there’s a lot of expressive possibilities but I’m more interested in having a drum machine/sampler/real fully programmable synths/effects and automation in a standalone box
The price is definitely steep but the ability to upgrade may offset that a bit.
Unfortunately there’s an 8 week waiting period
does the ultralite mk5 do the same?
There’s really nothing wrong with Behringer’s ADA Converters and it’s AD/DA, as far as I know the Focusrite converts only AD.
Not sure if this has been mentioned further up the thread, but there is a ton of used 10+ years old FireWire interfaces out there with ADAT and great converters.
The beautiful thing about ADAT is that you’re not dependent on USB drivers/implementation, legacy FW ports, or aggregate interfaces - you just add more channels.
I picked up two (2!) MOTU 8pre FW interfaces in 2016 for 400 bucks. That extended my MOTU 828x to 24 channel input over USB. They would be cheaper now and you can kind of afford to go used- converter shopping
Edit: see @yeshuah’s comment below. Not all interfaces can use ADAT without being hooked up to a computer.
I have the 8200 and a babyface, will test both later.
Also curious about latency.
Enjoy your push!!!
(I’ll have to sell some gear first…)
Yes this a great solution - as long as you do you research and make sure that they can be operated in stand alone mode. Some interefaces can’t or they require you to first connect them to your computer and change the config. This can be difficult especially with lack of drivers for newer OS’s
The Behringer’s inputs are all on the front though, correct? That’s a no-go for me, I need them in the back for the patchbay. Slightly cosmetic, I admit, but that’s how my brain (doesn’t) work.
Think I might go for the Motu ultralite mk5. That’s compact enough
Thank you for pointing that out. It is quite possible I got lucky and the 8pre automatically enters ADAT when not hooked up to a computer.
Good point about some interfaces not operational without being plugged into a computer. Guess best to avoid if going dawless or live
If you can deal w/2 inputs on the front and 6 on the back (all 8 outputs on back too) then the Scarlett OctoPre might suit you. Couple hundred more than the Behringer though.
Note – if you think of the Behringer as just another patchbay (but now going to digital on the back instead of analog) then it actually makes more sense to have the inputs on the front just like the front patch points on your analog patchbay. It makes it easy to run patch cables from the outs of your analog patchbay to the ins on the Behringer ADA8200.
The OctaPre does not have a ADAT input though.
The outputs on the back do not have any ADAT connection. The Behringer is ADAT in and out.
