this reminds me why I would never buy a Pulsar-23
It wouldn’t be my choice of colour (if I could re-buy I would pick up a blue one),
but I can see the scheme appealing to folks who enjoy the military aesthetic for
anti-fashion purposes (thinking of the chaps I used to do outdoor raves with).
Rough n’ Ready, rather than Guns n’ Ammo.
I think Vlad Kreimer was born in Ukraine.
Yeah.
I get your point, and I don’t think that they want to make profit out of war.
And I don’t like to be put in the whataboutism bla bla, so we both are pissed, right?
I’m out, this is riding on moral values.
You know whats better? Peace
Hope you enjoy whatever makes you happy.
I accept and enjoy every quirk and limitation built in the Pulsar but this really annoys me. I always try to use those two pins and no matter what I do it never gets anywhere. Such a waste of panel space and circuitry.
I also find this to be the most rewarding way to approach it, definitely not like a standard drum machine.
100% agree.
Not sure What to make of your comment tbh
I agree that this is probably Soma’s intention, but like… the attention of the whole world is on the invasion of Ukraine already.
you referring to the omg and wtf pins? i definitely wouldn’t call them useless but ofc it all depends on how we use the machine.
i am loving hearing everyones gripes with it tho so everyone keep them coming. fully agree about no modulation on the envelopes.

No worries mate, not directed at you, or anyone in particular.
I’d love to hear how you use them, I can never get anything worthwhile out of them - whatever I do I just get a few high pitched blips out of WTF? and slight timbral change out of “OMG!”. Maybe there’s a trick I’m missing?
@FiFac also would be curious to hear how you’re using them.
had to go back to some pictures/patch notes but i’ve sent the snare envelope thru an attenuator to the WTF pin, so it “retriggers” the kick. with the attenuator i could dial in how much strength it has. also have sent the strega sub octave out into it, again thru an attenuator, to do the same kind of retriggering. it can almost can sound like a delay without having to muddy up the fx delay. i’ve sent noise and lfo sq to the OMG pin in other patches, likely to freak the pitch out or make it groan - i honestly can’t remember the results off the top of my head.
but i think the thing here is to always have any modulation to those pins go thru attenuators so the effect isn’t as extreme. Recently i’ve been using those points with my fingers a lot which is essentially the same thing as the attenuating the signal.
should also note that i dont use it as a drum machine but for experimental percussion/noise.
Awesome, thanks for the tips! Hopefully I can eat my words re: them being useless
I used omg or wtf yesterday via lfo to attenuator and turning the 2 to knobs, became a tonal synth sonething.
I use them sometimes just to try to make me like the kick more by patching some random env or whatever. Sometimes i quite like the result. I‘m not the biggest fan of the kick, just with drive ( general, not on the kick) full on, then i love it.
The bag gives me a bad feeling also and don‘t like it. i would have assumed they mean it like make noise not war and want to keep it more abstract.
I don’t know.
There is a old general philosophical (abstract)text on the hp, did‘t read all…
I don‘t think here its the case but also other times the aesthetics of totalitarian-romanticism and guerilla-romanticism make me feel bad sometimes.
i‘m aware for example desert storm ( with quite military aesthetics) went inside(against) the jugoslavian war with their soundsystem.
I guess this is key to have usable results, in my experience it also looks like sometimes those pins only answer to modulation off/on while sometimes an attenuator wil work to have a more subtle effect.
Unfortunately I seem to be galvanically challenged (as someone else called me on the internet) so Pulsar’s pin won’t respond to my touch.
That’s interesting, I’ll give it a try.
Regarding galvanic, there was this song with the important tip (for various occasions):
You gotta lick it before you kick it…
It works for the manual twin CV plates but not if I want to connect two pins. I guess i should lick from one finger to the other but that sounds unpractical…
Yes, thats probably true, also worked just a bit sometimes for me tbh ( like quantize…), said it more for the joke. Loopop used cheese…
i didn‘t try the jimi hendrix style with tongue yet, could also be used in a latex show at a cabaret.
lol hope so too!
i’ll definitely have to try this
yeah i think gates/triggers/square waves seem to work best with those pins. big bummer about the pins not responding to your touch. tinfoil finger tips??? ![]()
