Polyend Tracker

I also wish that maybe the Tracker could be able to receive more midi cc input to begin to do funny midi loopback tricks like for Elektron stuff, just for the fun. I have to get a midi cable to try to do a midi loopback on to try to program the performance mode from one midi track on the Tracker. I thing that technically it should be possible already now

I can understand this very well ā€¦ being in the same boat ā€¦

Recently I got my SP-404 MK II and loved how easy it was to create ā€œnew soundsā€. Itā€™s very different compared to synthesis, but after having some patience with myself and the gear and accepting that sampling just works different ā€¦ it started to make sense ā€¦ somehow ā€¦ :upside_down_face:

Take - as an example - a quite uninteresting synth tone, which has been recorded as long as needed, and then feed this through a couple of modulated FX. OT is great for this but also the SP-404. Itā€™s amazing what can be generated.

Yep, this is possible (and quite fun).

I felt this way when the DT came out, and my brain works that way too.

Iā€™ve since found that having lots of sessions of synth noodling/sound design with my eurorack case, recording everything, and breaking the best material down into samples has been a great way to funnel my love for synthesis into the workflow that I love in the DT. I imagine it could be the same with the Tracker.

All that sample generation just requires patience, but it pays off when youā€™re jamming with 100% eurorack sounds that youā€™ve built to sound good from the ground up. All sweet spot!

I imagine you have to switch to performance screen to select track for it to work ?

I hear you. And I can, with work, sample and chop synth hits into instruments for PT or DT. The thing I think Iā€™m still missing is what that gets me in the end. What have I gained by turning synth sounds into samples? Because it feels like Iā€™ve only lost things, like the ability to modulate or tweak them.

Before the M8, this was a worth-while trade off to get the PT interface that I love. But now that I can have all the live-modulatable-synth-power and a good-enough LSDJ interface, itā€™s harder to justify all the chopping/curation. I suppose Iā€™d feel a lot different about this if my primary sound sources had always been sample packs and I had a huge library to choose from or whatever. But I guess Iā€™ve always leaned sound-design.

And, to be clear, I know the problem here is me. The Tracker isnā€™t any less of a wonderful device. I was just hoping there was some unexplored set of possibilities unique to sampling that would spur me, a synth guy, to pick back up this box Iā€™ve been so productive with in the past. But yeah. Maybe itā€™s just not for me anymore :sob:

I feel the same thing,

The M8 Synth engines in a PT body would be a dream, but honestly the M8 is great as it is.

Maybe the learning curve is steeper with the M8, but the tactile screen, the Tables, and all parameters you can apply to a sound make a it a great machine to experiment, at least it took me to more sound design experiments than with the PT.

I dont need the M8 to be more than a competent drum machine with all other options I have, but lately Midi driving the M8 engines from the Syntakt with a steady dose of Syntakt drums and SP404 MkII FX and samples has been my go to compact setup.

But you can never count out Polyend, Their support and steady dose of updates has been ace.

Looking forward to see what the Tracker has in store down the road, or curious to see if Polyend starts to lift their foot off the gas and have the Play takeover as their new focus, weā€™ll see.

Correctā€¦
I usually sequence a few patterns of midi on track 8 to act as templates that i can jump between while on the perform screenā€¦ and I keep a little jumper in my tracker at all times now

I need to get back to posting my Tracker songs on here. I was really prolific with it this past summer. I was putting up at least two songs a week. Iā€™m gonna start again this week. PT has been just sitting there for months. I still love it, just got really busy with life and heavy stuff. I shall return.

Just put out a track I made using just the Tracker. Kind of a weird footwork song with a fun beat-switch halfway through

How does the midi offset work? I assume it pushes the midi forwards to match the internal audio latency? Is the delay time auto calculated? Or manual and done by ear? Do you need to write an offset command for each track? Each step? Or one in the beginning of each pattern?

and did the internal audio latency improve compared to release?

Also, when you save to ā€œptiā€, does it include the slice markers?

Did they fix the scale bug? I dont remember correctly, but there was a ā€œbugā€ with global root note and scale selection and changing scales. Looking through the patch notes, i dont see anything about it. Or was it so that when you selected a scale, the slices of a samples were all wrong. I remember it being something silly like this. Also the roll fx was all over the place when applying to a slice.

Did they fix the codec which caused noise on the line input?

Did they finally make a transfer app? Because the third-party free thing they told users to use straight up didnā€™t work.

and finally, did they improve the headroom?

To the mister who wants to save the instruments to folders:

Saving to folders is very much the ideal functionality. But canā€™t you make a bunch of _projects for making instruments? And then browse into these _projects when you need a sound. Like project _breaks could have all your breaks as instruments. If you need to add something from another project, open it with _project and export.

A bit tedious and limited due to RAM limitation, but better than browsing through hundreds of projects i guess

Hey,

I love my polyend tracker.

There is a manual built in. Basically itā€™s a menu that points to pictures on the sd card.

I tried to mimic those format exactly, but I failed to put own pictures into this.
I would like to store images with cc values from different synths into itā€¦

I flipped the images to the exact same format (dimensions, bit depth, filenameā€¦) but with no success.
Result: blackā€¦

Had anyone success doing this and can give me a hint?

Thxalot!

Brilliant idea.

Files look like 300 dpi, 8-bit Gamma, 800x390 pixels
Did you try saving as 8-bit sRGB?

Thatā€™s indeed a great idea. Let us know if you manage to pull it off
