Polyend Tracker Mini

Mine is supposed to come today. I’ll give my impressions when I get it, but this is certainly discouraging!

you might love it!! it’s just not for me

Mine came last night, but I only used it for about a half hour (my fault, not its).

UI seems okay, found my way around it just fine. Complex projects seem slow to load. Keys feel okay. Build quality is okay, although the M8 feels better in the hand.

So far I’m not dissatisfied.

I’ll report back this weekend after I’ve made something with it.

still haven’t seen a video on the mini using midi external controllers on performance mode. yeah as jim mention the YT silience on the mini is very noticeable.

Excuse my ignorance, but is there no way to address the mono mic in an update? If not this is kind of a waste to even have it imo

You need two mics to record stereo. And that can introduce phasing issues.

Stereo field recorders usually have two mics in a XY configuration to avoid phasing. Something like this:

Ah okay I understand, now makes sense why most samplers don’t have dedicated mics anymore.

I got the Mini just before the August bank holiday here in the UK and returned it on the Tuesday. Excellent customer service as ever from Signal Sounds btw!

  • Didn’t like the weird coated plastic feel (like the old Ableton Push). Its all over the mini rather than just the back and sides of the newer PT.

  • Buttons felt cheap and mushy.

  • Light bleed round the top of the screen. Very distracting amount of it.

  • Visible glue round edge of screen and weird crimp marks in the coating, also round the screen.

  • Really missed the pads for playing in notes. The whole 4 button + and - thing worked well as a replacement for the jog wheel, but not so much for value input.

  • Menu overlay is a nice touch and worked well and very fast.

  • Battery life was excellent and lasted the advertised number of hours.

I was an early adopter of the all metal OG PT but sold that after a year or so. I’ve ended up getting the PT again during the Reverb sale and am loving the 1.7 firmware update on it.

So the big plus was that the Mini reminded me of what I liked about the original but it was not for me unfortunately.

After 5 minutes I can say it’s not for me either lol. I do really like the full sized one though.

I’m gonna return it or maybe someone wants to buy it for what I paid if they’re looking to get their hands on one now.

Worried for Polyend if this product is as big of a miss as I’m sniffing it is from various early feedback….

I love the original. In fact, I have two. I can’t use headphones to make music so the mini it’s not for me. I like the limitations of the original: the two minutes maximum, only 48 samples, mono, the render stems, all… I think that made so special the original are its limitations and I can see people using it in a future (even with MK2,3,4,5… on the market). I totally believe that you can do whole songs in it.

The 8 minutes of sampling an the stereo and the mic right now are not for me.

Yep, limitations are fine for creating. The limitations do start to become annoying when you want to play a live set though

Yes, PT is more for creating, but the performance mode and the mix patterns are great for live purposes. But I think that is more for studio use.
I’m going to use live in a future…

I remember playing an hour long live set with the earliest firmware. Can be done with a lot of sample manipulation to avoid it sounding all the same. Wouldn’t do it again though, 2 trackers and a dj mixer between them is a much better way to use it for live stuff if you want a lot of sound variety

GAS pretty much gone for me at this point. Really appreciate the reviews here. Seems there are some QC issues with this thing too (visible glue, mushy buttons etc) which helps remove my GAS completely.

My GAS for the Mini is a lot less too because of these negative experiences, I will have some patience and will follow this topic and see how it develops. I’m sticking with my Push 3 Standalone, which is such a wonderful device.

Go for it! And with the 30-days return policy of Ableton there is no risk at all.
