Polyend Synth

:open_mouth:

As in: you’d have to redo the sequence if you make a mistake.

Not as in - YOU WILL NEVER EDIT A SEQUENCE EVER AGAIN!

That is indeed a lovely couple.

This looks like an incredible fun machine for cold winter nights on the couch…

I’m very curious to see how it pairs with the Digitakt, it seems that it could be a very interesting powerbank-powered combo!

Me too, that’s why I want to know

Local Control. When I read that I remember I had seen the local control and turned the knob for the blue channel but thought I kept it on. That was it. I really like Polyend!

Well, I can’t say this is a surprise, but the state of the firmware is quite buggy.
I already made a few bug reports. I hope they react fast.

Glad to see it works

(Sigh) I’m such a GAS head. Ordered mine this morning. Watching the interview with the developer helped. While Physical Modeling can cut your polyphony in half, he stated that Grains (or was it waves) is almost unlimited poly. That works for me as some of the more interesting sounds for ambient is in this realm.

This also fits into my current trend of gear with my last three purchases being the MultiPoly, Hydrasynth Explorer and Polyend Synth. Small units that can feed my Digitakt II and Live II. In my old age I’m turning into a “recliner next to the window” type of composer.

You have? I’m guessing directly since i don’t see them in Backstage?
What issues did you encounter?

  • MOD menu being sometimes empty (I thought the PMD engines could not have modulation, I was so disappointed !)
  • Switch ARP on, hold a note from an external controller, then switch ARP off. Note gets stuck. Doesn’t happen with Synth’s Pads.
  • On Arp Menu, top left knob of the 3x3 matrix changes the pages, which feels awkward and is inconsistent with all every Menus (ADSR, LFO, etc…) where you use either the Suare Button or the Menu knob on the very left.

What interview are you referring to?

EDIT:
I’ve found it:

So I purchased this and it was delivered yesterday. Now I’m thinking with Digitone 2 I don’t really need another synth. What really makes me think maybe I’ll keep it is the Granular and Physical Modeling engines? I’m wondering if any of you have messed around with these two things and have any input? The video Oscillator Sink put out shows these two engines off nicely but I’d love to hear more about them. Thx!

Ah i see what happens. Some engines have multiple modulation screens. If your last engine was on say Page 2. And you switch to PMD (which only has one), it has the wrong index and thereby shows you an empty page at first. Pressing Shift + Mod will show you the proper screen again.

Nice catch!

That is indeed a bug that is already know. For now don’t switch between Sequencer Modes while a note is playing. I’m sure this will be fixed quickly.

I see the logic why they did it that way, but i understand where you are coming from. That is because they are different modes but are all related to sequencing.

Glad to see it’s nothing major . Not saying they aren’t bugs - they clearly are.
But they aren’t egregious either. You made it sound like it’s unusable

Wow. This sounds so good!

Did I ? That was not my intention.

Here’s another one :
Delay sounds like shit with external clock.

Warning before buying this thing

I’d never wanted to buy Polyend stuff again, but now I was curious and ordered it from Thomann, it arrived today. After 1 hour. Frustration and annoyance, the thing is being returned and that was really the last time.

Reason:

  1. MIDI/Clock external in makes loud noises, as if the CPU is overloaded.

  2. No second MIDI TRS adapter cable is included (the three I have were all incompatible), so I can only record the notes played on the grid externally if I don’t use Clock/Start In. Or vice versa

  3. An even bigger disaster via USB, MIDI in hardly produces stable playback, it only works properly if the clock is set to internal, but then I can’t start a sequencer externally.

  4. Local off doesn’t work, the MIDI notes that I recorded in the sequencer (Novation Circuit Tracks & Ableton Live) are not played locally. With local on, 70% of all notes played are skipped!

This thing is another spawn of a bugfest.

I can’t believe that this has gone through any quality control, for me it borders on fraud. The thing is unusable.

It’s The End now Polyend!

Edit;
The device is crashing often when change the scene without saving , what a mess!
Never sended a device back so fast

Edit: of course I’ve updated to 1.01 before

Thanks! I’ve answered your question on my video. If you got any more questions, feel free to ask here or wherever you feel more comfortable

Wow. Maybe I won’t even open the box.

Always asking the obvious questions first. Are you already running Firmware 1.0.1 ?
This Hotfix was released the same day the device was announced, but didn’t make it onto the devices - as packaging happened before it.

Parts of it are fixed with 1.0.1. Delay is still affected. Both of these are related. This is infact a confirmed bug and a fix is currently in testing. So a solution shouldn’t be far off.

Workaround for now is to use unsynced Delay with external clock. Tip: switching from synced to unsynced actually calculates exact number of ms from the sync rate for a specific tempo.

I think that has always been the case with them. It’s TRS-B btw, sorry if that is an inconvenience.

What are you using as an external clock? I’ve had no issues so far clocking the device.

Local off turns off the pads for that synth section which currently has a sideffect (not sure if intentional or not) that Arp/Sequencer do not trigger as well. .But MIDI should still be triggering notes without issues if sequenced externally. Happy to help if you got some more info for me.
