The tournament is wrapped. Every penalty kicked, every lager drank, every card pardoned, every whistle blown, but there’s still one round left to play: This one.
So join me to cast your minds back two weeks—a joyous time when the headlines took a pause and wide world all watched and witnessed as one. Would England rock us like a hurricane, or fall over like a harried crane? Would Argentina come in like a lion or go out just plain messy? Would the USA pull a sick upset, or just pule? We were united oh so briefly in the thrill and suspense of it.
In that spirit of global togetherness and excitement, here are 9 champion tracks that each pull from disparate musical traditions. Much like the subtle alchemy of 11 men who act as one, each beat builds something greater from its individual parts.

But if participants want to DM me with their groups/countries, I’ll post that in the thread as I get them.
Here are the ones I know for sure:
#1—? I think I know but don’t want to guess. #2: Group G #3—Group F #4—Group F #5—Group F #6—Group K #7—Group G #8—(I’ll go ahead and guess this is Group F) #9—Group K
I usually try to limit myself to sampling physical media, which led me to trying Group K and Group I. But I couldn’t find anything in my collection from Uzbekistan or Portugal, and all my French records seemed too obvious.
I wish the dispersement of countries through the Groups had a been a bit different. There were a bunch of countries I wanted to try where I just had no knowledge whatsoever of the music of the other 3 countries in the group, so it felt silly mashing them up.
