This is very interesting. I wonder what becomes of rekordbox. I have a cheap pioneer dj controller that I use with rekordbox, mainly just as a more hands on listening experience for my music rather than doing any real DJing.
I should add that although i mostly use serato i also use rekordbox which has a couple nice features not present in serato. My usual set up is a pioneer s9 with either technics or rane twelves. But one of the spots i play at has cdj3000s with 900mk2. I gotta say the integration with serato makes my life easier (ie allows me to play off serato instead of rekordbox).
Man I remember when I first encountered Serato. It was like magic! I remember the first Dj I saw using that technology before it became a consumer product and I thought they were playing pre-recorded tracks because they never switched records. John Aquaviva with Final Scratch.
Serato had the better stems technology, besides that … its getting rid of competition? I have a serato only controller, which needs unlock via serato… discontinuing serato would brick it…
…well, that must be a classic “eat competitor” and make use of some of their smart ideas move…
pioneer cdj in combo with rekordbox software IS THE industry standard in dj’ing around the globe…some festivals/clubs might add an a&h xone dj mixer instead of some pioneer dj mixer model, but the 2 to 4 cdj decks are all over the place to find for sure…
and if there is one other brand that sometimes can also be found in pro use, it’s serato software with simulated decks on a laptop…
so, this is just cleaning out/further monopolizing the dj tool market…
since ni’s traktor concept and combined hardware controler solutions are no big thing anymore, beyond any consumer just for fun dj’ing, this aquisition will make sure…everbody who’s dj’ing for real, needs some subscription version for rekordbox and just goes with a stick to the gig…
don’t have real numbers, but in reality, it feels like 90 % of all sorts of dj’s do it that way, anyways already…
and let’s be honest…a rekordbox formatted usb stick in ur pocket, heaps of endless lists of ur musicfiles on it, two pioneer cdj player connected with a standard networkcable and ur good to go, to shine, to rock, no matter where u go these days…
This subscription thing… i dont mind to pay for software, but this sucks. I understand development need constant funding, but it needs to be part of the whole business plan. Their hw isnt cheap either, and its sad to see what they do to the djs 1000, seemingly undeveloped hw/sw besides the funding.
These kids don’t even know the pain and struggles of lugging around 50 pounds of precious records to a gig, and then frantically going through them to try and find the next record to play, and sometimes only having 10 seconds to cue, and beat match, and hoping the needles are new enough that they don’t skip.
I wonder what this means for Rane mixer/controller integration with Serato. Would be a shame for that to stop for people more comfortable with Rane hardware over Pioneer.
Interesting analysis. If i break down my last large event…
I had 1 out of 40 artists use NI Traktor
About 20 using rekordbox
16 using serato
2 using vinyl
1 using mpc
All rekordbox users used cdjs
Most serato users used turntables/rane 12s and some used cdjs. Maybe a few cats went internal.
@micabeza here, run ur dj set on this network we use for all our registers
@jdaddyaz i know that pain but even with serato i can be frantically searching lol (serato face much?)
@Phillip dime con quien andas y te digo quien eres
@looms rane screwed the pooch when they didnt produce the rane twelve with the 7 inch platter, rane seven? Same with technics honestly.
