Is that Biz? RIP!
ā¦once there was a time, where beatmatching was a skillā¦
but in this dawn of the information age, all u need is a stickā¦the talent to read a roomā¦and some prefiltering/curating taste for the content u want to play out loudā¦
the bitchy point with pioneer equipment is, the impedance of this damned cinch/rca outputs translate that powerful, even better than what good old technics vinyl record player give out, that itās almost unbeatable with any other source that is also routed through that same dj mixerā¦
if u come with any sort of live rig, or traktor backend, u better find a more direct/individual/dedicated/exclusive way into the soundsystem, ur very own option of gainstaging, otherwise ur always missing some pounds in direct comparison to the dj that simply used a common cdj/stick combo right before or after uā¦
The thing that bugs me the most about auto beatmatching is that now everyone is Djing and not putting in any work to learn the fundamentals. Now all of a sudden I show up to a gig, and thereās a couple of people playing before me just slamming in auto beat matched tracks from Beatportās top 10. No working of the floor, no building it up, none of that. Just slamming tracks in, running in the red non stop, overriding the system to the point where all you hear is the bass. I think anyone can become a good dj, but theyāve got to learn the very basics at the very least. Djing as an art form is slowly becoming a dying one.
Furthermore, let me quote the great philosophical work āRatatouilleā to drive home my belief on Djing.
In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteauās famous motto, āAnyone can cook.ā But I realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist; but a great artist can come from anywhere."
InMusic or MusicTribe?
I tried beatport streaming in traktor but I wasnāt able to record the mix I was doing.
So either get another app to hijack the audio or just go back to my flac/mp3 collection.
Very happy with flac ⦠and no need to be connected online.
There are some cool label collections on bandcamp with a hefty 90% off if you buy everything, but i spend then a lot of time curating, and deleting stuff anyways, a good collection takes time⦠i met some guys which even cut the boring parts from a track, they have some dedicationā¦
There was a time when the general track structure went to be a formula, which is ok for a single track, but in a set perspective, i dont want a breakdown every 3 minutes, after 15 min units ore more is probably better for the floor.
The beatport link is attractive though, but i imagine getting lost while hunting tracks.
Iāve fixed a few old tracks in terms of timing , a few kraftwerk , o-superman , and other things that had wonky bpm ⦠but the novelty of fixing them wears off .
I use a lot of que points to help remove the boring bits.
I think learning to mix helps a lot in song structure and approach - you soon find that far too many tracks have the same overall structure based on 4 or 8 bar repetition. ⦠very derivative but also helpful to make a smooth mix.
I donāt mix for a club - after a few similar sounding tracks I change things , it would probably annoy everyone.
Hopefully Elektron
hard pass. looks like iāll be learning that marimba sooner than later
Not happy with the acquisition, but my Serato use is extremely limited for DVS. Overall, I still prefer and primarily spin vinyl.
Oh snap, maybe the forum gods can merge this over there?
I remember living in LA, and there was an Xcutioners adjacent group. I cant remember their name. Not Dialated Peoples.
Anyways, we are outside the club chillin, and the groups DJ comes rolling up with a Red Ryder wagon filled with records, and one of those wicker Japanese gardening hats that looked like samurai traveling hats.
Edit.
Living Legends?
