Oxi One Hardware Sequencer

YES, for mono and poly!

I see… the previous step gate is TIE which ties the next note.
So not only the removed step should be reset, but also the gate of the previous one should be set to 99 or anything lower than TIE.

Yes, exactly! It would be great if a similar change could be made when doing things like condensing tied notes and setting an end bracket over tied notes (doing these things result in states where the last step in a sequence has a value of TIE, not a gate value, so the note stops sounding after the operation). I posted a topic about this in the bug reports section of the Oxi One forum - check that out for more detail.

NOD, New Oxi Day.

Well, it arrived late last week, but work kept me busy… . I was hanging out for black one, but I grabbed a B-Stock standard unit for a good price.

Awesome bit of kit.
Discovered last night that my old Korg PADKontrol powers up and works as a MIDI device. Piece of cake to set up.

I’m using the OXI to play Sequential Take 5, Roland S-1, Werkstatt, Neutron, Digitakt, and Korg Radias. It’s gonna be fun.

I’m just getting to grips with the Oxi, but so far, I am knocked out.

I’m looking at picking one of these up and I’m curious if anyone has experience with both versions. I like the idea of the black version, but there’s a part of me that thinks the outlined squares could make for too much visual noise vs the solid squares of the original. Has anyone had experience with both, or felt they needed to switch from black to original?

I don’t have any experience with the original version, but can say that I have zero regrets about getting the black one. I love how the black edition has just the edges of the pads illuminated. The black edition could be a problem in a dark setting like a live show or club though, but that wasn’t of any concern for me.

Aside from the gigging issue, I don’t think you can go particularly wrong with either choice, but I had a strong inclination for the black edition and am very glad I got one.

I have the original and sold the black one. The black version is beautiful but in darker environments the original is much better to see and control.

Had the original one, upgraded to the black one, much better in every way.

I’d love to try both to judge for myself but I hate returning gear

I own both. Visual noise isn’t a problem. IMHO it’s even the opposite because the emitted light is more controlled. Regarding operation in the dark: Once you know your way around a bit you’ll not need to read the labels much. If gigging is a thing for you I can say that it’s easy to overestimate how much of the buttons you might actually use on stage. For me it pretty much boiled down to load, init, end, keyboard, arp, page/arrow keys and sequencer select.

Having both, I’d go for dark.

Dark one here too.

As others have said its no problem using this in the dark once you know your way around it.

I take the opportunity to make some span. You can get both projects from the link in the video description!

Will there be a purple case edition soon ?

Absolutely. I’d even take it over the regular one, which I love more than the black one.

There will be a purple version available in about two months, but in a very limited edition.

I updated and tried it out. It is still is very confusing to me.

Currently you set the length of a note by press and holding the start and then pressing the end point. This makes a lot of sense and I would expect the same process to shorten a note. Ie: if I wanted to shorten a note from 8 steps down to 4, I would then press and hold the starting step (eg: step 1) and then press the new end step (eg: step 4). No new notes would be created and I would just have a shorter note. Simple. (Interestingly, this method works if you’re making a note longer, just not if you’re making a note shorter.)

Instead, when you go to shorten the note by pressing step 4, a new note is created on step 5 that runs until the end of the original note length.

I can see the logic in the way it currently works, it allows you to add multiple notes by making one long one and then splitting it into smaller chunks, but I’d ask if that’s the way people work when inputting notes into a sequencer? And also, how do I insert space between notes using this method so notes are not always tied together?
