Oxi Instruments E16 MIDI-Controller

I was certainly not giving a comprehensive review. There more other comparisons. I would also wager that Oxi would be invested in software updates. Never buy something for what it “might” be, but MIDI learn seems to be a reasonable request.

One could also say you should have copied the EC4 better  There’s not too much innovation with this kinda design in general. (Not saying that shipping any piece of hardware is easy because it’s not) The building blocks already exist for like two decades and only improved over the time. There are enough differences in the design decisions so make the best out of the competition on a free market ;D

(btw the idea for the E16 is more than a year old already)

This looks cool and makes me want to break out my Maschine+ to do this scene/state locked midi cc morphing thing in a tempo synced way. I neee to look into using a midi merger to end notes from the Hapax and cc morphing from the M+. Convincing myself I don’t need this haha. Is it working?

MIDI learn easy. The OXI ONE already has it implemented.
We’re just getting started with the product, but this is a great beginning. You guys already know how it goes

HAH! Nice! Thanks for making an appearance. I sent you an email about some other QOL requests. I likely jumped the gun, since the manual isn’t finished (or available entirely) yet

Either way, my order is in, and looking forward to it.

MIDI Fighter Twister, Shik S32, Faderfox EC4 (and to an extent UC4), Novation Launch Control XL3, Modern Midi Timepod and pay one notch more for Neuzeit Drop. Snapshots with morphing, Motion Recording and Groupings should be the basic nowadays. MIDI FXs. I think OXi’s solution looks good, but 4-character names, with pages and pages of what to remember is going to take some memory work.

Edit: add Electra One Mini

One thing I love about the EC4 is the Ableton Live script which allows it to dynamically control Live.

Labels are updated contextually based on what you are editing with this and it’s fantastic.

Can the E16 do the same? Doesn’t look like there is a similar Ableton script available (yet).

That one thing would seal the deal for me

Ordered one, i have soft spot for midi controllers, beside Roto control which was absolute best buy, from any midi controller, and using it with Live on daily basis, e16 will pair nicely with Digitone/Digitakt.
Recording option, snapshots, controlling multiple parameters with one knob and screen(size also) made me sway over other similar controllers.
Midi learn implementation is definitely something i would love to see in first update. But @OxiInstruments already said “easy” so i think i am good.
Price is a bit more then i expected, but i was ready for 450 as my limit, even when they first announced it.

The live recorder not synced by design is a fun twist to say it was impossible to make (for now at least)
That’s the major difference with the Drop, I think there’s midi clock in to sync internal midi FX.

Is there a picture or video of the E16 sitting right next to an Oxi One? Or what is the actual size of the E16? I just want to see how both devices look next to each other.

I get the E16 marketing is targeting whoever doesn’t have an Oxi One yet, but still, a couple of pictures of both sitting together cannot harm.

I really want one but will hold off to see reviews. I like that it has several midi outs. I also think it would be a useful addition to my iPad running Battalion and Transit 2.

Posting end of December. Wonder if they could make it in time for Christmas?

Same, wish to take it with me on holidays where I’ll be far from studio just with dt2 and ipad.

This would be so nice.

Yes, it would be great to have it on E16. What would be the default behaviour without it? I guess whenever you select a plugin you’ll be affecting the parameters of that plugin as well but the display won’t tell the plugin parameter names, right?

I’m going to have to read the manual again  The EC4 does snapshots!? For me the killer feature isn’t even that on the E16 its that one can see BOTH the label and the amount of parameter applied at the SAME time. Something that is not physically possible on the EC4 as the screen simply doesn’t have that capability according to the company.

Who need a screen when there’s color coded ring led for each encoder?

Does it receive midi info from the digis to avoid parameter jump when switching patterns?

I was discussing this specific subject last night with a friend at an EMOM. I was asking him if he likes the Roto Control and he said that it’s the best Controller out there but it would be of no use if the controlled device doesn’t send back its MIDI infos to the Controller.

Good question, didn’t receive it yet. Once i do I’ll let you know.
