Oxi Instruments E16 MIDI-Controller

Dang, this is what I expected to hear… there was just NO WAY the e16 could have accomplished such a feat.

(tbh, I may still nab one for the NRPN functionality)

Thanks A LOT for testing this out for me @Guinness2u .

;- )

If anyone else knows if there’s a way to do this, please let us know! I’m pretty sure some ‘gnauts will find it useful.

Pitch the idea in their Discord.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about OXI it’s that the developers listen to their end users.

It could be pitched as a configurable workflow preference:

  • External MIDI updates associated group parameters.

Or something to that effect.

re : remote control.
I successfully managed to control the screen.
For some reason I can’t get it working with leds for now.

Can snapshots and groups be assigned across pages? So that a knob on page 1 controls parameters on pages 2 and 3 too?

That would be great for organization, having snapshots and group leads on the first page, and all individual parameters on the following pages. Has anyone tried this already? Couldn’t find info about this in the manual, but maybe I’ve overlooked something.

AFAIK, this is not possible. But it’s something I’ve seen requested on the Oxi Discord, so they are likely aware that it’s something people are interested in. The most recent update was relatively minor, but the next update (or two) is said to have some “cool new features coming soon”. Maybe that’s one of them?

Clock sync for sure

Just wanted to chime in that I find it rather sad that neither the E16 nor the Timepod support Linux with their respective apps.

Just make an OS-agnostic web app, y’all, please.

So can one encoder control 2 or more machines at once? As per the Neuzeit.

Just to explain. I’ve been using elektrons for a decade and last night I decided to check out the performance macros on the digi boxes for the first time. Suddenly all of the pattern based limitations of these boxes are gone. My minds blown. Also a bit sad / annoyed I didn’t get on this sooner.

Has anyone got their hands on this and the drop? If money wasn’t a concern is the drop significantly better and worth the extra footprint?

Just ordered one of these to control mirack on iPad and Tonverk in the same set. So excited!

Looking forward to using oxi to morph between states a/b using snapshot faders. That will help me get from one section to another…

But does any current E16 user know a/the workflow for getting not just from snapshot a to b but also c and d and e and so on?

Is it possible? Is it being discussed on discord? (Anyone have discord link?) how do / would you use snapshots to do that?

My NLC XL went back, DAW modes didn’t work and more importantly, it wouldn’t receive midi data from the Octa to update encoder positions following the cc61 transmission; hopefully the E16 can handle this.

CC61 to the OTII is a send request but whether the controller acts on the device dump is a different matter. I’ve just returned a Launch Control XL 3 because it couldn’t do this, so have been eying up the OXI E16 for this…

Faderfox talked to me about a new PC12 kind of controller coming in summer.

I quite like the build of the E16 and the LED feedback, though the FF units seem to deal with the midi better for the moment…

New fw

Today we released a new Firmware version with amazing new features and the App Version to go alongside it!
Please download the newest app first.

Most notable features:

  • New Random Special action
  • Store Special action
  • Add ‘Always On’ display option which always shows the value
  • Group Masters can now be turned by snapshot blend to enable more complex automations
  • Push Action Toggle Indicator on screen
  • Bipolar option per destination
  • Second Color option for Swap Destination mode
  • Add ‘Color Indicator’ system setting to always show the first LED of the ring

Still no sync, but they are delivering on things, so i guess any time now.

Excuse the likely silly question, but if I used an E16 as a controller for a hardware instrument (a 1010 Nanobox Tangerine in this case) is there a way to get the light rings to illustrate the current values within the hardware its controlling, even if those values change (such as if the patch changes)? Or is E16 only able to do that while controlling software?

For example, one thing I’m looking for is to map a knob to a track’s filter on the Tangerine, and be able to tell what the filter is current set to without having to press the button.

My assumption is that this couldn’t work over TRS MIDI, because the Tangerine wouldn’t be sending any such information to the controller, but if I were to connect them by USB could I make that happen?

it depends. the e16 supports it, but the tangerine needs to broadcast its cc values over midi (USB or otherwise). this is often referred to as midi feedback.

in short, I’m unsure if the tangerine allows this. You’d have to check the manual or check around online.

Ok, thanks, that makes sense. Looks like the answer is probably no from the Tangerine’s side of things.

Smooth random looks like a lot of fun
