I know there have been several topics discussing something similar, but I want to pitch my for idea for Overbridge Host / Breakout Box, in the hope Elektron might pick it up in the not too distant future.
So since Overbridge already has a somewhat standardized protocol for sending digital audio to a host machine I guess it should be possible to build a hardware device, that would work as a USB-Host for the Overbridge protocol and break out the individual channels audio channels.
That way the I/O of the Elektron devices can still be slim, keeping the cost down, but there is an easy and reliable way to extend for more sophisticated use cases.
Here is how I would imagine a device like this: USB A Host Port --> ADAT In/ ADAT out OR USB A Host Port --> Analog Audio.
Even when using ADAT this would open up so many use cases:
- Going into a Digital Mixer and use all of its Interface, Effects, Sends etc.
- Use even better converters as individual channel outputs
- Connect with studio hardware and fit into an established workflow from there
So yeah, I hope I could convince you guys, that a hardware breakout box for the Overbridge Protocoll would be an absolute blessing for more sophisticated live and recording use case and I hope Elektron can make it happen.
