Waw, the long list of bugs fixed also shows they released a device before it was ready.
Good for early buyers to not feel abandoned but not a very good advertisement for the brand. I guess they had quite a high rate of returns.

We’re also nearly there with the next OS, which will address the MIDI timing jitter (causing sync issues) and Auto Sampler latency, alongside further refinements. We’re aiming to release this in October.

i had read that, but it makes no reference of the specific issue mfk is referencing which is nothing to do with the autosampler

OK, sorry! My bad.
The message from Elektron is the jitter bug is responsible for a few different issues, including the auto-sampler issues. I don’t know if the issue you’re talking about is included in that list or not but if it’s timing related it’s entirely plausible.

Nobody knows, It is not clear what Elektron means when they say “MIDI timing jitter”, and also did not respond to my reply where I asked for clarification
FWIW: I briefly analyzed MIDI timing jitter, and at least with my TV this does not appear to be a big issue, provided my test cases and code is correct. The more pressing issue is latency, as you and @mfk pointed out.

I have no clue about the matter but considering it’s built on linux and pipewire I’m afraid it will never be able achieve the same low latency as previous boxes? I’d expect 10ms delay at best

maybe you are right, but the issue seems more like a general timing issue … as if the device was set with conservative buffer i/o values and might be reduced when optimized
i understood the autosampler issue to be primarily about inconsistent jitter rather than the circa 20ms latency numbers which can interrupt ‘feel’ if playing the device externally
the latter isn’t different this time around, it’s not obvious to me the ‘quoted’ october assurance from mfk is about the former or latter … thus the question above ! my guess is that the latter is a broader optimisation thing that will only happen when the firmware is stable/mature

Latency is a notorious issue on linux audio and midi implementations that often takes months to get under control. It was also an issue for Torso S4 for quite a while, but appears under control now, also other platforms (notably Bitwig) appear to have gotten this under control. So maybe not all is lost, I hope it was just launched 4-6 months too early.

They said it’s planned for december.
I think they wanted to beat Roland to it – it usually takes a while for people to hear about the crazy new products Elektron brings out. 
If you also put a TR 1000 on display at the same time, it will be hard to keep sales stable and high.
Roland hasn’t made anything as interesting since the 808/909 came out 
.
I wish they had a little more capacity to communicate with us—but ultimately, it’s better if they put all their energy into development. We can live with a little bit of frustration over bugs, unfulfilled wishes, and clicking buttons.
They will solve the MIDI problem.

Getting a release ready takes time, Elektrons style isn’t to do beta style nightly builds.
There is a very good chance they were working on this patch before they even released the product.

This is why i’am buying hardware synth and samplers. Latency Drives me crazy. And 20 ms is like Windows in the 80th, and its summed up with other latency’s in the chain.

TBH for now I’d be happy with a midi offset option that makes externally sequenced gear usable. i have also been a bit concerned the latency has not been directly addressed. I really WANT to love tonverk but if I can’t use it to control and process external gear there is no point in me having one.
