Still no possibility of sequencing external gear with midi??
Im selling this boy…
This is a weird thing to be fixated on given it’s never been the case and never promised…
It’s a ‘wubben’ (would-be-nice) … just sayin’.
Yes, i know… but it makes me stuck with only cv gear.
I dont wanna buy an octatrack jzst so i can sequence other gear.
I bought it when i tought that a4 and two moogs will be enough for all my duties.
Now, if i wanna evolve, i need other sequencer or DAW.
DAW is a No go, and money for OT i dont have…
Wanna trade my A4 for MnM??

yes ok
pm me if you are serious!
I’ll admit I’m also hoping for external midi note sequencing with each update. I love the way sequencing works on the A4, since it’s also the “brain” of my setup. I wouldn’t even mind sacrificing a track (+cv track) for that.
The fact that midi sequencing has never been promised doesn’t mean that Analog Four owners should forgo their right to complain about its omission but those who do complain often get criticised for doing so.
The A4 has the lowest track count of all the Elektrons, it’s a challenge to compose full sounding tunes with it and the ability to sequence two CV devices doesn’t expand things much further.
All the Elektron machines which preceded the A4 could act as a brain/control centre for midi set-ups capable of big-sounding productions with a healthy track count and it’s frustrating that the A4’s lack of a single midi track means it can’t be used in this kind of role.
If the CV track could be switched to midi-mode you could link it up to a multi-timbral synth module or sampler and have a nice, full, drum kit all sequenced together under the same roof as your four A4 tracks.
But the ability to sequence two CV modules, which are typically monosynths, doesn’t exactly give you a complete set-up so you’ll probably need a drum machine which means syncing two sequencers so you lose that simplicity and things get messy.
Also, it’s likely that more people will already own midi gear than CV gear.
All this makes the Analog Four a terrible “my first Elektron” choice and severely limits its usability/versatility and it does deserve complaint.
My ham sandwich doesn’t have turkey on it! This is awful!
Yep, as snipes go, I’d have to agree.

The A4 sequencer interface seems like the best hardware sequencing solution out there, at least the best one of the Elektron units, with the song mode and the way the little keyboard is used… Not having it transmit midi notes seems like an obvious talent that’s not being utilized, its just a shame. It would be so useful and musical and seems like a modest request.
If you really want to compare it to sandwiches, to me requesting midi note out would be more like asking for some common sauce. Asking for that shouldn’t get you strange looks.
I’m having trouble with C6 on my Macbook using USB to update the A4 OS. The C6 Config menu does not show any Midi In or Out interface available. The Analog Keys is connected via USB and I have selected OS UPDATE WAITING FOR SYSEX.
I tried both USB and Midi/USB ports options in the Analog Keys Midi Config. I’m at a loss right now…
I mean, is there really a reason for the A4 not having midi besides that Elektron didn’t say it did?
Just make the ability to choose between CV track and Midi track. Also be able to use FX track as a sequencer as you can now for if you have 2 monosynths.
Copy and paste it as much as you can from the OT if you have to, quick and dirty, no frills.
update- I had to resort to using a midi interface and the Midi In on the Analog Keys to update the OS. USB does not work.
You guys demanding MIDI ought to get over yourselves! This box was always about analog and CV sequencing - there was never a claim that it would do MIDI sequencing: it’s what you bought into… willingly. Anyway, the A4 does respond to MIDI clock and SPP, so plays in sync with other MIDI gear
So you view the Analog Four as midi gear but don’t think midi sequencing is a reasonable request?
No one’s demanding it but we may well be quite passionate about the subject and that’s simply because the omission of midi is puzzling and its inclusion would greatly expand on the unit’s versatility.
The Analog Four with midi = the sky’s the limit.
The Analog Four with two CV tracks = Berlin School revisited.
Also, if Elektron gave it midi they’d sell more.
Elektron don’t want you to buy one Elektron box - they want you to buy two or more! This is why they don’t have the same features on all of their boxes - its just clever marketing. The A4 board has connectors for multiple outs but the A4 doesn’t have these - you need Analog Keys for that. If your A4 had multi-outs and MIDI sequencing then you’d not bother with a Rytm or an Octa or a Mono…
Serious control issues with this…just saying, not to mention sometimes dangerous fan-bois.
Is it such a bad thing? No midi sequencer? I pull a couple of midi tracks from my md and use cv from the a4 to mini brute. Its fair to complain that the a4 doesnt send midi but, like eveybody says, it never promised that. Apart from the financial perspective, i dont know why people dont just buy more kit! There is no “everything in one box” solution. Even if there was, are you sure you would want the limitations of sound? Chuck in some random biits of gear here and there. Shits and giggles to be had at every turn.

you could send messages directly to elektron
instead of clogging this forum with this flogged out dead horse
its beyond boring, and why you get the criticism.

A couple of people spoke of the lack of midi on an Elektron product on an Elektron forum, I too commented, that’s what the forum’s for.
Since you’re adding to the clogging of the forum, why not actually say something on the matter? And quote something relevant while you’re at it.
