OP-XY/Z User Thread

Yeah, that’s actually a good point.

Doesn’t seem to be possible to step sequence it, but the OP-XY has no issue recoding notes from multiple octaves if you live record them. Quantization all the way up and tempo all the way down, if you’re planning to do complicated things that require finger gymnastics.

Decided to leave aside the file transfer issues and focus on having fun with it and making more music. It didn’t disappoint.

Edit: Sorry @Tarekith, but I ran out of post-its

Love it! Smooth swingy vibe!

have you tried https://github.com/ganeshrvel/openmtp ?

You’re forgiven.

This time.

Tried it this morning. Doesn’t work. The OPXY appears briefly and disappears.

Doesn’t this work to add notes to a step that already has notes on it?

I love this yoke

Mine’s on the way anyway. I caved.

Didn’t know if could do this though, layering multiple instruments and play them all at once.

This video made me realize why linking tracks could be useful

Could one theoretically layer a bunch of tracks and then have the XY sample itself via the multisampler to create a new “instrument” from those layered sounds?

Possible, but you have to abuse the sequencer for this. You can’t manually play another track while you are on the track that hosts the multisampler engine. Use the master out as input for the multisampler engine and mute everything you don’t want to include in the sample.
So you would have to program the notes you want to sample on step one on the synth track, go to the sampling screen, hit shift+M1 to arm for sampling, hit play, go back to the synth track and transpose, rinse and repeat.

Play out to Op1f tape, then sample back into multisampler. Hmm, this is why they want us to own both.

I use Koala for this kind of thing. On an iPad mini connected by USB-C, I resample, and slice samples, and record back to the XY

Anyone got tips on using the scene arranger? Find it a bit annoying that you have to set your scene as you like it, then go to another scene which will have a completely different state, set that one and move on. Usually I’m wanting to adjust each scene progressively rather than having to find my place with mutes and patterns again. Would be better if we could adjust the scene then save it to a new slot then keep tweaking and saving without having to leave the current state. Also locking the scenes so they can’t get accidentally messed up would be good. It seems to behave a lot like the mute groups in opz. Loving the device over all, just a few things I’d like to see improved down the line…

This is how I’ve been doing it, works great!

I wonder, what is the point of external FX if you’re not performing? With no way to record the results, is it just a neat trick?

You can record external effects, it’s the internal effects you can’t record while sampling.

Woah! This is so good! Love the melody and the strings that come in towards the end. Thanks for sharing!
