Out of the box with the scratches?
Yes. Repeatedly press the number key to cycle between different play/skip patterns. Solid LEDs indicate skipped iterations, and blinking indicates played.
Love this thing to death but this has been happening every time I use the thing, at least once or twice. Unacceptable for a $3500 CAD device, full stop. From what I’ve read it was in beta testers hands in April and they’re building off established codebases. Not saying it’s easy but it feels rushed out for Christmas.
Can you replicate the crash?
It’s been sporadic. Sometimes when assigning samples, this time was when in the bars menu adjusting groove.
It’s gotten worse: cpu load symbol on brand new projects with default instruments and no sequences or any other data (!), punch-in fx not saving to sequence unless I reboot, and LED/screen brightness goes back to default bright if I reboot. Don’t really want to factory reset but 🫨
Are you on the latest firmware?
Had mine since launch. Haven’t had any crash yet. Perhaps you found a bug that’s not found by casual users like me.
Yes 1.13 or whatever. Edited my above comment to add more bugs I’ve encountered tonight.
Question for XY users, reading through this thread I’ve noticed a few “regressions” compared to the OP-Z, that were mentioned, I was wondering if I got that correctly and if there were some others that I missed?
- No possibility to chain projects seamlessly
- 9 patterns instead of 16 (but patterns are per track though, so not directly comparable)
- No resonant HP/LP on Tape an FX tracks (real bummer on this one, the tape filter is so useful on the XY for creative effects!)
No FX sends for the Tape track (unsure of that one?)- No temporary knob change (holding shift + tweaking knob on OPZ)
-
No possibility to copy/paste steps in the sequencerfixed in update - No quick save/load of projects (so useful for my paranoid mind, and to reset a project after a live play)
And one last thing I did not see mentioned anywhere: is it still possible to either instantly switch from one scene to another (like patterns or mute group on OPZ), or queue the change after the end of pattern (like with play + pattern on OPZ)?
Thanks!
- No FX sends for the Tape track (unsure of that one?
Tape track has sends and a high pass filter
- No possibility to copy/paste steps in the sequencer
You can do this with the latest firmware
No quick save/load of projects
I thought this would be annoying, but it’s literally two button presses to save, no extra effort
those are really strange… ive been encountering strange CPU loads as well on pattern which are not really that taxing. So it might be a little critter in the system somewhere…
Can it acid? Bit of an experiment to try and get some 303 sounds. I think it sounds goof and squelch at higher resonances, but a bit lacking when tamed. This is using the wave table synth and distortion in the FXII slot. need to experiment more with the slides.
Has anyone else had luck with acidic sounds?
I’m finding the 4 bars a bit limiting for sequencing melodies… anyone got any tips?
Set resolution to 8 and live record, it still records at ‘full res’ but you get 8 bars. Or I think 64 if you also set it to 4 bars at /8 res
I’ve been playing with recording Ableton Live 12’s generated midi clips into the XY, and then using step components and the brain to turn them into evolving melodies, and chord progressions.
It struck me that the XY is also a great tool for mangling midi from a DAW, and then recording it back into the DAW.
I’ve never met anything like the Brain, and it really is a great tool. The OP-Z could also do all this of course but the Brain on the XY has a lot more manual control.
Is it possible to hold a chord on the op-z with the master transpose track? I only remember using a single key at a time to transpose my sequences up and down, but maybe I wasn’t using it correctly. On the OP-XY, you can hold multiple keys to form a chord and it will adjust the whole sequence. I love that function!
Here’s my first track with the OP-XY. I’m really loving this device so far. Perfect companion for the morning commute. Feels sturdy, layout is great, synths sound great, effects are great, sequencer and arranger are great. Really enjoying it for sketching, writing, arranging, and performing, which is what I want from a groovebox.
It’s faster to press the two buttons than manually save on the Z, I like that.
yes, it’s true
I’m trying to know. I must write to teenage
