Maybe it blocks it because it’s typically sustain so it assumes (rightly or wrongly) that you wouldn’t be sending it from the XY as a continuous control?
i had that thought too, but sustain is normally CC64 i think
Yes i have replicated this… and furthermore if I save a midi engine patch it jumbles the CC on some encoders.
The workflow on the OPxy is feeling so good now:
After creating almost 1 GB of multisamples over the last few months, I have now started to edit the preset settings, i.e. filters, envelopes etc.
Unfortunately, I have to say that working with snapshots is a disaster. Every time I save a changed preset, I have to rename the new snapshot. It also creates a copy of all samples from the preset. Everytime I create a snapshot. Completely unnecessary.
If I create a single preset, I can live with it. But not if I want to edit over 50 presets. Are there any tips?
I’ve already thought about whether it wouldn’t be faster if I edit the .json patch files blindly on the computer
Renaming shouldn’t be too hard in a text editor right? Just do a search-and-replace on “untitled.”
I have a digitakt 2 and digitone2 that i recently bought but barely used last weeks. Someone wants to exhange it for a OPXY … Probably i will barely take the opxy with me ( so portability is not a big advantage).
But for quick jam and playing around…what would be better? I also have a push3 standalone.
I would make the deal. The XY is so wonderfully simple: Just turn it on and make some tracks. For me it’s not really about portability, it’s more about having everything I need in one unit that feels good, looks great, is easy to use and sounds amazing.
I’ve hardly used my DT2 since I got the XY. I’m still going to keep the DT2 because I know that I’ll use it more again at some point.
I’m the opposite. While I really enjoy using the XY, for me the portability is one of its biggest draws. If I was just going to use it at home, I would find the DT2 and DN2 combo FAR, FAR more powerful and flexible. Every time I go back to my DT2 it’s like a breath of fresh air in some regards. A lot less workaround to get things done, and things like sample management are implemented very well compared to the XY.
Given this is an XY forum, I’m sure a lot of people would disagree with me though.
I disagree
absolutely love my xy, whereas the digi’s just don’t excite me anymore. xy is the shiz-nit
I too enjoy the portable aspect of the OP-XY.
At home I prefer using ‘real’ instruments and a DAW.
Making a full song on the OP-XY, for me at least is akin to building a ship in a bottle. It’s remarkable what can be accomplished with it yet too much effort and little control on individual tracks.
I’m away in a week or so and the mighty little OP-XY with a muti effects pedal will suit perfectly. My old Sony tape recorder will also be in the bag.
Would love some longer sampling time and … etc etc
Currently using some of the great sounding engines on a work in progress song, and the OP-1 is getting an airing too.
You’re not alone in feeling this way. For whatever reason, I just don’t connect with the XY. Definitely not the way I’ve connected with my Elektron boxes. I think it has some cool features up its sleeve: I think the sequencer is cool and the punch-in FX are a nice touch. In fact, I hope that Elektron takes notes and incorporates these features into either a future firmware update or a new groovebox (like Tonverk).
This is not to in anyway diminish the feelings of those who are making great music with the XY. More power to them! I’m just not feeling that same sense of inspiration when I turn it on. I’ll keep it for a few more months to see if any future updates get my attention. If not, I’ll be selling it by the end of the year.
I bought a digitakt 2 and digitone 2 new…twice! Returned em both times because I find the op-xy workflow far superior. I know we are on an elektron forum, so I want to be careful here, but the elektron workflow was revolutionary…for its time. That time is no longer imo. The effects are boring, the sequencer of the op-xy is better, it has no performance effects or real tricks up its sleeve at this point that other companies haven’t adopted and made better. Yes, it’s the old trusty, but the new kids have shaken things up. I even find the op-xy sounds better, like the actual audio quality coming out of it.
But, as you can see from these comments, it’s extremely personal. It’s all about which workflow your brain works best with. For me, the elektron workflow doesn’t jive like the opxy one.
yea xy’s swing is funky. I’ve never been a big swing person, but on XY I love it.
I have an OP-1F and an OPXY…I know how I feel about TEs updating priority!
does anyone know where the new count in feature exists? can’t find it in any of the settings, but I’m sure it’s right in front of me.
would love bar length specific recording as well which seems to have been added to the KO II.
Play+Rec, than Play and it starts counting
nice - thanks! a few more additional features would be great to optimize capturing external instrument loops, but getting there.
