OP-XY/Z User Thread

Maybe the buttons in the OP-XY have double trigger problems. This kind of compatibility to the OP-Z would definitely go too far for me

Can someone please explain why the “note offset” ability in OP-z is so useful? I’ve never used one and don’t quite understand the use case.

Say you record a bass line in realtime, but realize you started playing halfway through the measure instead of at the start. With offset you can slide all the notes to the left half a measure so everything starts in time.

When i understand the datasheet of the Cherry ULP switch, which is used in OP-XY, correctly, double trigger should not be possible.
Based on the travel force diagram, the switch needs to be fully pressed before it can reach the reset position. And before the reset position is reached the switch can not be triggered again.

That diagram describes mechanical characteristics only, not electrical, so it can’t say one way or another whether double triggers are possible.

That hysteresis (distance between operating and reset) looks like it’s very small, less than 0.1 mm, which would make key chatter more likely, not less.

It’s true that this type of switch should prevent double-triggering during long presses though.

Thanks for this clarification. I tried out myself and its definitely possible to double trigger. Just press the key half the way down and then wobble this key very slightly.

Here is my workflow to create and import own multisamples into the OP-XY:

Creating multisamples

I use Autosampler in Logic for this job. This is the only tool that can automatically loop almost any audio material seemlessly if you use the magical Penrose algorithm. Btw, Autosampler is also included in (the much cheaper) Mainstage.

If you want convert existing multisamples from other formats (especially from AIF to WAV) I highly recommend the free ConvertByMoss.

Mapping multisamples

For this task I use the amazing OP-XY Multisample Patch Generator.

Since today this tool reads wave files with embedded loop and rootkey tags and creates automatically a patch file in OP-XY format.

Transfer multisamples to OP-XY

Now download the resulting file, unzip it and transfer the folder containing the multisample patch to the OP-XY preset folder via MTP.

Done

UPDATE

In the meantime, two other tools for creating OP-XY multisample patches have been developed.

Hello, I recently noticed something unusual when connecting the OP-XY and TX-6.

To record my performance, I set up the connections as follows:

  • OP-XY audio out → TX-6 input channel
  • TX-6 USB-C → Mac Studio
  • Audio interface (MOTU M4) headphone out → Headphones

However, I’m experiencing some unknown noise. Did I set something up incorrectly? If anyone knows what might be causing this, I’d appreciate your help.

And I’ve noticed a few issues and would like to know if they qualify for an exchange.

  1. The gyroscope malfunctions when using punch-in effects.
  2. The pitch bend occasionally doesn’t respond properly. I don’t believe this is due to my handling.
  3. When the synth engine overloads, the device becomes unresponsive. While the ongoing project is saved, these issues make it difficult to use for live performances or actual playing.
  4. With 800MB of presets and samples loaded, the boot time is exactly 1 minute.
  5. Although it’s a known issue, the built-in microphone sometimes stops working.

Apart from these, I’ve occasionally noticed other bugs, though I don’t remember them in detail.

The biggest issue is that the device randomly shuts down without any reason. While I don’t use the gyroscope frequently, it’s still concerning, and the pitch bend occasionally doesn’t function properly, which is quite frustrating.

Despite these problems, I really love this instrument in every other aspect. But at this price point, these issues seem unacceptable—not just to me, but to many others as well.

It says in the manual the gyroscope can be used to alter some of the punch in effects, sounds like there’s some issues with that conflicting with other gyroscope use.

I’ve been holding off on getting the XY because of all the crashes and bugs experienced. I’ve honestly never seen a device launch with so many issues especially at this price point. This is no knock on the beta testers but how did this make it out of beta testing? Are we just so advanced or diverse as users that these bugs weren’t caught? Also how did a sampler get released without a single form of proper slicing? I own a ton of TE products but I just can’t even get past the amount of problems I see when I go to pull the trigger. I think I will have to wait at least a year before it becomes what it was intended to be.

You hit the nail on its head; I’ve been contemplating this as well. I’ve been looking for an all-in-one-device, and this seems to fit my various criteria, but I simply can’t get myself to pull the trigger. Between the returns due to hardware QA, I see, and the pretty obnoxious crashes and wipes, I am staying away for now. Hopefully something cheaper pops up before the OP-XY gets fixed, so I can get away with a less steep pricepoint (gotta look on the bright side of things).

You know what, you are absolutely right. I will look at it on the bright side. Here’s to me and you getting a less steep entry into the XY.

Just to say this is the user thread. There’s another thread for general discussion and complaints.

I own the Z

Have you tried enabling USB ground isolation on the TX-6, in settings (GND) ?

It’s most likely ground loop noise. Loopop has a good video on fixing this issue: https://youtu.be/q2c6fKOu-vo?si=e3OFzFHAYrWmj9hU

I can understand why you might be holding off buying an OP-XY as the software crashes are annoying. I’ve learned to work around the issues I’ve had (although there could be others waiting to bite me) and I’m really enjoying it, despite it’s current flaws. I reckon it might be a few months before things settle down, but I can live with the current issues I’ve had so far (finger crossed) and focus on learning this device and bringing my music creation in a new direction.

But you are not talking about the Z, are you?
