No, it didn’t make the cut.
We have asked for it, but I’m not sure that there is a good way of implementing it.

Thanks for the quick answer!
but: Oh noooo…I loved that functionality.
How about holding instrument & +/- ?
That combination isn’t taken and seems like a logical choice as a substitute for Track &+/-
I used that function so often when just noodling ideas and then shifting them around when they didn’t start properly on the 1.
I don’t get the logic behind this Making variations of a Pattern is so essential. With Copy & Paste, make some tweaks, and voila—a new pattern variation!
That’s a shame. I thought we might be able to set which tracks the punch in fx impact (like the way we can on the brain), but in the punch in fx M1, M2 and M3 don’t do anything. Interestingly enough M4 brings up the LFO.
I didn’t know that we could use the LFO on the punch in fx to modulate synth, env and amp params. It’s locked to only the value LFO though, with the set of only 3 destinations. I must have a play with this now too.
Trying it, but not sure I’m seeing it impact the instruments.
Edit:
We can do per track punch in fx, I just took another look in the manual.
per track punch-in FX
while in any instrument track, press and hold shift then press any of the keyboard keys to apply punch-in FX. the low octave controls the individual track whereas the high octave modulates all tracks within that group (percussion or melodic).
you can record track specific punch-in FX
by starting a recording then holding shift and playing them on the keyboard. punch-in FX will record to the punch-in FX track in auxiliary
On another note. Does it bug anyone else a little that the manual doesn’t use capital letters.
I also find it a little strange that TE felt the need to trademark the term “punch-in FX” seems very generic too me.
Edit: The term “Punch-in FX” isn’t a registered trademark. I know companies can use the TM letters to protect things before they are actually registered, when they can use the R to indicate a registered trademark. Just thought it was interesting.
But you can’t isolate the punch-in FX for the track PER PATTERN. It affects ALL 9 patterns, and that’s super annoying. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I just tried it again, and I can’t seem to keep the punch-in FX for Track 6 Pattern 3 (for example). It copies the FX across to Track 6 Patterns 1 and 2 also.
I’d kill for some elektron style lfo’s on the xy. the current ones are a bit limited.
You can, it records this to the aux pattern. I’ve just tested it there. You need to preselect a pattern in the punch-in FX aux, then go back to the instrument, play, hit record and then use only the bottom octave while holding select. It will record these fx to only this instrument track.
A picture will make more sense.
has anyone else noticed, that the MIC is not working unless you have a cable plugged into the audio input? WHILE ON THE AUX INPUT TRACK
Yes, I think this was highlighted previously in this thread. It’s a known bug apparently.
OK, am gonna try this. I step and also live recorded on the Aux track for the copied Pattern, and on both method it copied across to all the Patterns on the same track. Thanks for trying it out!
trying to do pitch envelopes effectively on XY - tremelo is the only lfo that allows you affect pitch. env shape down + fast rate is as close as I can get but its not snappy enough to do kicks n stuff.
or am i missing something?
You can’t record it from the aux pattern, you need to actually be in that specific instrument. Then hit play/rec and holding shift use the lower octave to play in the punch-in fx.
I followed your steps, still no joy. Whatever punch-in fx I used on a pattern for that track, it automatically copied over to all the other patterns within that same track. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.
Here are my steps:
This is where I’m stuck. I only want this punch-in fx on Pattern 3, not for the previous patterns. If I delete this punch-in fx on Pattern 3, it will also be deleted for Patterns 1 and 2.
You’re going wrong on step 2, don’t select the aux track, select the actual instrument track (bass, lead or whatever).
See the manual here:
Doing it in this way will record the punch-in FX to the selected aux track pattern, but you do this from the instrument, not the aux.
Hi. Thank you for taking the time to reply. But that’s not what I’m looking for. Yes, the fx is recorded into track, but it affects ALL the patterns in that track.
What I’m looking for is to record the fx into one pattern in the track, but doesn’t affect all the other patterns in that same track. I followed the manual highlighted by you and it didn’t work. All patterns on that track inherits the same fx automatically.
Yes, it will impact all the patterns in that track unless you choose another or a blank pattern then on the aux track. But this is the same behaviour as the brain or fx, etc.
Maybe a general clarification is needed here:
Each track on the OP-XY can hold 9 patterns per project. This is true for all 8 instrument tracks, but also for all aux tracks. To access the pattern menu for the aux tracks, press the arrange button twice.
You can record per track punch-in FX from each of the instrument tracks using shift+any key on the lower octave. These punch-in FX will be recorded to the currently selected pattern on the punch-in FX track. If you don’t want your instrument tracks to be affected by the punch-in FX, create a new and empty pattern on the punch-in FX track.
Edit: Further clarification: Each pattern on each track is completely independent from another. In case of per-track punch-in FX, you only use the currently selected instrument track to record the punch-in FX to the punch-in FX track. The punch-in FX pattern still remains completely independent to whatever is going on on the selected instrument track. This allows for freely combining instrument patterns with the aux patterns.
Understood. But, try this:
But I don’t want those punch-in fx on Pattern 1. How do I do that?
The only workaround I found is create another Scene with same Patterns for the tracks and select the punch-in fx Pattern for this new Scene
But thank you gentlemen. Much appreciated sorting out this puzzle (for me).
