Octatrack with just 1 synth for under $400?

Why an AS1 vs a Tetra ? What is so special ?
I’d be interested in a Tetra, but I’d be more interested in a Pulse 2 “mono” synth (with paraphony) for example…

Yes I’m big fan of the Pulse 2!!! Good call.

I’ll throw the Behringer K2 into mix that thing sounds incredible!!

Poly — but I’d still be open to a mono. I’d like to be able to at least record some chords (even though I suck actually playing).

That actually looks pretty cool, but I’d still need a controller. Thanks!

Possibly I should just get a midi controller like a Novation Impulse — Controller, plus I could always use the computer for some synths. ?

Octatrack can be a 8x10 CC (and more) controller! :content:
Micromonsta doesn’t really require a controller, (especially with OT). Clever quick access to main parameters.

Isn’t a Shruthi usually in the $400 range?

This is something what i’m looking for too. I’d like to have one bag for gigs which contains my live setup. It can’t be bigger then hand luggage size since i need to take it with me. So octatrack is obviously in the bag, desktop synth (i still don’t know what but thinking either micromonsta or blofeld) and let’s say strymons el capistan and delay DD5 and maybe small drum computer (not that important atm which one)

So size of the synth kinda matters.but here are my options

Behringer neutron
Blofeld
Micromonsta (out of stock but still doable)

What else do you recomend?

This is kinda musical direction i’m doing. So i’m looking for some atmospheric synth and i think neutron is not really best option in this case. Plus neutrons weak side is presets?

Thanks

Dsi mopho and a micromonsta should be within budget.

Around £150 for a mopho, £250 for the micromonsta.

All bases covered.

Mopho is 300eu where did u find that price? :open_mouth:

Ebay mate.

I see used Mophos regularly at around 200€.

Would recommend a Blofeld - very versatile, incredibly cheap used (in EU) and multitimbral. The advertised 16 parts aren’t too realistic, but 4 should be doable. Gain staging can become a little tricky with only one stereo out and the less than intuitive menu navigation.

If you can find one cheap (and like the sound) a used Nord Rack 2(X) might be a good option for a small, multitimbral VA synth with its 4 outputs. Less versatile (no wavetables, no modmatrix, etc.) than a Blofeld but still a great machine.

Never heard of ebay mate.

Anyone with Korg EA-1 experience? It seems like punchy synth but not that atmospheric and it’s super cheap second hand atm

Thanks! Need to decide between blofeld and micromonsta

Another DSI synth worth looking at is Evolver Desktop.

Blofeld also amazing and very well suited to Octatrack.

Why the attitude?

if you are planning to use it live ,don’t take the blofeld .In my experience is buggy (some freezing could appen) and it’s output is really low .For studio use is good

Sound. As-1 is one voice of a Prophet 6 (slightly better actually) which is the best sounding poly synth I’ve ever owned or heard. It’s basically a modern Pro One with useful fx and full midi implementation.

Nothing wrong with the Tetra sound-wise (in fact just picked up a Prophet 08 for that DSI DCO sound) but editing it is uninspiring. Also hard to find under 400. But if you need polyphony then I would go that route, or maybe a used Minilogue XD, Nord Rack 1/2 or even a Micromonsta.

As far as monos go Pulse 2 is a solid option but personally preferred the sound of the original version. The paraphony is not great in my opinion, doesn’t use the main three oscillators and sounds thin and weedy.

Another one to consider is the SE-02. If you can get over the tiny knobs it is a massive sounding synth in a compact package.
