You dont need spatializer for this. Thru machine, select a mono input A, B, C, or D, done.
Thinking of the octatrack as a mixer, is a mistake in my opinion. Because it really isnt a mixer. It sort of has mixer like functions to use for certain things but it isnt a mixer.

Right, but that uses up an entire track for it. Which maybe is an unavoidable thing one grows to accept later, but it kinda sucks when trying to sample thereās no way to just record C directly without eating an extra track for it.
Of course there is.
Track recorders are available to sample any thing at any time, regardless of what other tracks are doing.
So you can record a mono source any time you like. Even if all 8 audio tracks are busy doing other shit.
8 sampling tracks
8 audio tracks
8 midi tracks
All available concurrently. To be configured as you please.
Ok, so google searching for this topic brought up this very thread where people say the above is not possible without also using a Thru track to get C to be centered. How do I directly sample just input C as a mono track that plays back in the center of the stereo field not in the left channel only? I was only able to figure out recording it to the left channel.
Example.
Track recorder 1 samples input C.
Flex track 1 plays track recorder 1.
Sample gets played back dead centre.

Hmmm, thatās way better than what I got out of this thread earlier (which re-reading appears to be about monitoring in mono not being possible without a thru, which, ok, sure) but also not what I was able to figure out while digging through menus. Entirely possible that I missed something along the way. Somehow I got a track recorder to record C, but it was hard panned.
Thanks, Iāll poke around some more / revisit the manual.
Id say you had the track recorder set to record CD which of course would result in a hard panned sample.

If you set your thru machine to be a mono input (eg A), it will come out left and right, then set your track recorder src3 to that track.
Yep.
I figured out what went wrong: I had set the recording to C on some tracks but not all tracks and then it recorded hard panned and then I googled and found this thread and misread some of it as being about recording when it was about monitoring⦠whew.
+1 for 4 individual inputs in mixer settings, and 4 individual noise gate settings.
About stereo recordings
RAM saving. And you canāt convert recordings to a mono file with AED so it requires an external editor.
I can see memory limitations if you want to play sliced samples live or modulate them with the crossfader. Itās clicky with Statics.
