Hi guys, I have a live set this week and I’m preparing some stuff to do it.
I already read Merlin’s guide , manual and some YouTube but still things that I don’t understand about the Octatrack .
I have 6 banks , each corresponding to one song. Each bank with 10 or more patterns .
Now sample list slot is full (static machine) and I was using part 1 in banks A to D.
I started bank E with a new song, switched to Part 2 and here is where I am confusing. Shouldn’t it be without any samples ? It shows me exact samples slot full from Part 1.
Then and because I need to put more samples in the slot static machine i changed some samples and then when i got back to Bank 1 it plays the same samples that it was supose to play only in Bank E Part 2.
There is no real solution. 128 positions in each slot list (static/flex) is the limit.
Workaround: you can combine multiple samples into one and use slices or start pos to access them. Each multiple sample (sample chain) will only take one space in the slot list. But, of course, that’s not that comfortable especially when you don’t use it from the beginning, but want/need to introduce it later in a project.
In all respect and no bad vibes what so ever, I think what your doing wrong is planning on a live set with the Octatrack without understanding how it works. I highly advise reversing the order of operations… I’m just looking out for you, one wrong move and you trainwreck… If you do move forward with this I send you lots of good vibes and strongly suggest to make sure every single button you press and thing you do you’ve done before. Your post shows a dangerous amount of
to play a live show… I highly recommend several months of studying, researching, and practicing…
I admire the spirit though, go for it if you want! Get out there if your feelin it!
I don’t really want to tell anyone not to spread the vibes, it’s just OT usually takes a bit to get a handle on… Good luck whatever you decide!
-each bank has its own 4 parts that are not shared between banks
-when you move to another bank and are using part1, it is part1 of that bank and different from part1 of the previous bank, OT has 16 banks x 4 parts = 64 parts
Question
-when you say the slot list is full, have you filled it with 128 samples, or just 8?
You mention that your static slot list is full. Just to remember that you have 128 slots in the flex list too. Static machines are typically for loooong samples because there’s no size limit, they’re streamed from the CF card while Flex machines use samples loaded in RAM. It’s of no use to load a kick sample in a static machine.
Since the slot lists are global when you move to a different part within a bank or switch banks which means you are also on a new part, you must point your flex or static machines at higher slot numbers than you used before and load your samples there.
When you move to a new bank it defaults to that banks part1 and will be filled with static machines with samples 1-8 loaded. Do not change the samples in the slots 1-8 (assuming you’ve used all of them in your previous bank/part) but instead point them at higher slots like 9-16 and load your new samples there. Both flex and static sample slot lists hold 128 samples…
“it” didn’t, you did (because you don’t understand the architecture yet…)
Don’t worry, you will. But as others pointed out, there’s a learning curve of several months. There will be a lot of headscratching and a lot of “happy accidents”. I’m well into my second month and just starting to feel confortable with the basics (and I have a Digitone too so I didn’t even need to learn the Elektron sequencer). This forum is of invaluable help, you will find assistance when you need it, often in real-time! Awesome!
Because the slot list is just a list of 128 samples (2 lists really one for flex, one for static) to be used in the project. The list does not change per bank or part. New parts or banks(which include a new part) default to having samples 1-8 assigned to static machines. If you want to load more samples you need to load them to higher slots and point the machines at them.
Yeah sorry buddy… no disrespect or anything and folks are around to help…
It’s just in general “noob”, “Octatrack”, and “live set”, shouldn’t be in the same sentence…
F*ck it though, let’s get you goin!
But as I replyed before. With DIGI u can use Banks and Paterns and if u change a sample in slot it doesn’t change the pattern before or after the one u changed that sample .
If I was using small samples I could use AR and DIGI but I’m using big stems so the OCTA Static machine is my bet for this live and off course other things OCTA have that the others don’t for example the Magic Crossfader
It’s not the same architecture at all. In DT and DN samples (DT) and sounds (DN) are linked to the pattern, in OT they are linked to parts and parts are linked to patterns.
