Octatrack live set noob

Correct, but Octatrack ain’t no Digitakt…

AFAIK that’s wrong. On the Digitakt you run into the same problem when you change the global sample slot list, which contains all samples used in a project (also max. 128). When you change the sample in slot 1 every pattern which references this slot (either as source parameter for a track sound or as a sample lock) will change, too.

The only difference is that the A4, OT, Rytm have an additional structure (kit or part) inbetween the patterns and the slot list. This way you can re-use/share the complete instrumentation of a pattern (the track sounds, so to speak) in other patterns.

When you go to a new bank double click a track button to get to the quick assign menu, this is the slot list of samples, you’ll see the slots starting at number 1 after the “recording1-8” slots which are the recorder buffers for sampling. Scroll down and you should see the samples you’ve already loaded in slots 1-8 assuming you loaded them all. Scroll down to the first empty slot (probably slot9) press yes, and the file browser will open to load your new sample to. Find your new sample and press yes. Now you will have a machine pointing at slot 9 that plays your new sample and does not interfere with your previously assigned samples…

Think of it this way, slots 1-8 are slots 1-8 everywhere in the project. If you change whatever is in slot3 for example, any pattern/part where you have a machine playing the sample in slot3 will change to the sample you just put in. Solution, load your new samples to higher slots and assign the machines to the higher slots as written above…

And just so you know your very much not alone on this…
This question has been set on retrig for years…

Yes that’s correct. This “default track sample” thing is NOT in the manual, at least, I never found it. And I did search.

That’s why I just prefer the workflow and how things are organized in DIGI. It’s just simple and faster .

I ride a bike and drive a van (9 seater). Both are great. I take the van for stuff I can’t do with my bike. I can go to the same place with both but I can’t take as much luggage or passengers on my bike as in my van. On the other hand, my bike is easier to park (and easier on fuel too). Van is better in bad weather. Way more pleasure on my bike in spring/summer than driving my van. Unless if it’s raining. I 'm happy to have both options

I wouldn’t want the OT any other way…
For those that would, there’s options, ala Digitakt…

Everyone can be happy…

Ahahah indeed !!

Each machine is a instrument and we have to choose to use the right one

Love them all

Cheers
