Update: OctaEdit v1.7.500 OSX Beta/Demo Version

  • OSX 10.9 and above only
  • Octatrack MkI & MkII
  • Octatrack OSv1.40 and above only
  • Saving functionality has been disabled

This is a heavily restricted demo, primarily testing the new loading / Project module functionality.

Reminder that OctaEdit only supports legal characters, so will not load Projects that include illegal characters.

Notes:

  • OctaEdit v1 Options are not compatible with OctaEdit v2.
  • OctaEdit v1 Library Entries are not compatible with OctaEdit v2.
  • I’ll be looking at writing a v1 > v2 convertor later.

OctaEdit:

Changed the core structure of the OctaEdit application files.

  • Chainer: Stores all the files and settings related to the Chainer module
  • Library: Stores all Library Entries / files used by the Library module
  • Licence: Stores your OctaEdit licence file
  • Options: Stores your OctaEdit settings file
  • Support: Stores all the Support Logs used by the Support module.

a) (semi) Arbitrary internal build numbers
b) OSX only at the moment. Removed that line to avoid confusion.

Selective Loading

OctaEdit v1.7.500 introduces Selective Loading which can be enabled via Options.

Selective Loading allows the ability to select which projects will be loaded from a Set, this can be one, many or all. When disabled, all Projects are loaded. This can be handy when you are working on Sets with lots of Projects.

When enabled, OctaEdit will pre-verify the avaialble projects and display the [ Set Load ] form.

Simply select the Projects you want to load (e.g. House | Trance ) then click [ OK ]

OctaEdit Compatibility

Beta versions fall under v2 column (e.g. v1.7.500 Beta)

Been asked this a couple of times now, hopefully this clears up any confusion.

OctaEdit Compatibility

Will a project started under an older firmware be compatible with v2? Or the compatibility grid is just for communication between the OT and OctaEdit at the moment of using the latter?

Not sure I understand the question? The above chart is valid as of the OctaEdit v1.7.500 Beta release. It will not load Projects created in OS’s prior to 1.40

Are you asking if OctaEdit will automagically update projects?

The answer to that question is no.

Whilst I could, I have made a conscious decision to not support older os’s on the bases that ~95% of users will be on OSv1.40+ within a year.

I also updated but i did start some projects when i was using prior firmwares. So these projects won’t be able to be manipulated by OctaEdit?

Technically speaking it is the OS which saved the Project. I advocate making a backup of all your Sets/Projects before updating the Octatacks OS, and it’s Projects in case anything goes wrong.

So if before using OctaEdit i save within 1.40A one project that was initially created in a previous OS version that should do the trick?

The Octatrack should upgrade the Project for you. As above, make a backup first (which you should have done pre-os upgrade anyway)

Once saved as a OSv1.4 project, will be readable in OctaEdit v2 / v1.7.500 Beta; though is a very limited beta of course.

Do you mean the beta’s available for purchase/download?

I thought it was reserved to some chosen testers.

Beta is available for any existing user who chooses to install it.

OSX, OSX Beta, Windows, Windows Beta versions are all supplied.

So far I’ve had a single report from a Windows user which is a bit quirky.

Sorry if my questions are too naive but how to test if saving is disabled? You can’t check the results using the OT?
Is it about checking if some error messages are returned when using different functions?
One should ask you in PM to test the beta?

Testing OSv1.40 support, loading, selective loading, GUI etc…

Hello Rusty!

Selective loading worked good with my projects. But now Octatrack seems to start fullscreen and I’m not able to access the settings.

Any Hint … should I delete App settings?

Cheers Björn

That is the main thing!

Yeah, you can delete the app settings, and I think that will start it in compressed mode. I’ve disabled the resizing in that version though…
