Doesn’t matter how many slices or sizes. I just whatever it’s visible is the UI. I DO group sample types.
But sets of 16 is def cleaner tho

The .ot file can store a maximum of 64 slices.

Some chains I like to have different variations of the same sounds.
But I also create 64-sample chains as 4 chains of 16 samples with each kicks/bass tom, snare/claps, hats, other percs, so that I can finger drum a line on one track.

It was crashing on a wav file I had. I batch converted the whole folder and it fixed the problem.
Anyone run into the problem in Megabreak mode, where Octachainer only processes the first 16 files and omits the rest of the 64?
I’m new to OctaChainer. I have 64 files of different lengths. I added them and export. It gives me a prompt to name the file. Then it gives me the prompt to name the file again, telling me it will overwrite the file. Ultimately I end up with my 1 .wav and 1 .ot file. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?
iirc, it’s max 63 files for the 1st wav. On the 64th and beyond, it’ll prompt you to create another file, so name it something else each time, and it should create the wav and ot files for each pass.
Edit: You may also need to close OctaChainer and reopen it and try again. At least hat’s my experience with it.
With 64 slices, the second wav + ot files don’t seem generated if named differently.

With 63 slices and below it generates 1 wav file with its OT file.
With 65 slices and above it generates several wav files with their OT files (64 slices max for each)
With 64 slices it generates 1 wav file with its OT file, but it says it will generate 2 wav files. It doesn’t. So it seems buggy but it works. it should behave like 63 slices and below.
Same issue with 3 x 64 slices (192). It wants to generate 4 wav files, but it generates 3.

Yeah, this is an annoying bug (a very silly one at that), but I don’t remember the details. I haven’t touched OctaChainer in ages. I got the impression others have made much better tools to replace it by now. Do anyone still have interest in it at this point?
I guess it could be fun to do a “V2” as a community project, perhaps? The current version was just a quick and ugly tool that then ended up getting used way more than I had expected. Rethinking the whole tool from scratch and coming up with a good UI and feature set could be a fun hobby project.

FWIW, I ended up writing my own version in Python. No GUI or anything, but I’m batch processing samples that I synthesize and didn’t need it. If anything, the 64 sample bug was the minor annoyance that led me to a more efficient workflow.
Yes, i still use it regularly.
waaaaaaay back this was the original reason i started working on ot-tools, i wanted to be able to script creating a bunch of chains for the massive samples from mars pack i had recently bought
that “small, fun, couple of weeks" project has kinda snowballed and i still haven’t got around to making the sample chains

if they have, i never saw them / used them before i writing my own stuff. always used octachainer as my go to.
more tools and variants is always welcome, especially since the OT has basically no official additional software coming from elektron. we’re kinda on our own here.
also – octachainer was a massive early reference for doing all the ot-tools stuff. probably wouldn’t have got this far without it being there. so a massive thank you from me regardless of what you do going forward.

Disturbing but without consequence.
There is a weird one with MegaBreack.
I loaded 64 x 65532 sample length files.
I exported 8 files, but 4 files are 32 samples too long, 4 files 32 samples too short.
The struggle is real!

Definitely! Use it often. Love its simplicity! It gets the job done, quick & easy with no fuss.
My chains are usually max 16/32/48 wavs, as it’s easier to remember what wavs are in there, since I use several chains per project.
Haven’t tried the newer OT tools yet.
