I found a vendor off Reddit (via r/3Dprintmything) to print the case using the above STL. Vendor is Thornton 3D Printing and cost $18.50 USD including shipping to NY. The case quality looks solid to my eyes. If you were to tell him it was an enclosure for the Nord 3p he should have it on file.
As Cecil mentioned the bottom screw holes were off. Adding maybe 3mm to the depth of the case would probably line them up. I didn’t even bother trying to file and then screw them in (I think it would have pierced through the case edge had I tried) but the enclosure was nice and snug as is with just with the back screws tightened. I added a little electrical tape on the front to secure and cover holes and carry the black color all the way around. Otherwise Cecil’s case fit like a glove!
You’ll need some specialty screwdrivers to unscrew the Nord. The larger screws can be unscrewed with something found in a standard Allen wrench kit but the tiny ones by the MIDI ports needed something special. (They are T6 and T10 bits, which this electronics multi tool from Lowe’s contains)
I also didn’t bother with desoldering. I just clipped the leads right at the board and it was nice and clean. Desoldering would probably maintain the entire length of those leads which would be helpful to reconnect it back to the pads, but I’m not planning on it, and could still probably make it work as is.
So much better now! That’s one hellofa drum synth per square inch
I got myself a ND3P for an incredible deal. It arrived yesterday, and I love it. Never selling it, or the ND2. They’re both brilliant and captivating instruments. The ND3P feels like more of a tangible instrument due to the pads, and while the ND2 is capable of fulfilling the same role with pads added, that ND3P reverb really helps take the sounds to other worlds. I love that the pads have a ‘stick’ and ‘hand’ mode, and the sensitivity options are ideal for getting the perfect response.
Nord has flat out said they ended their virtual analog era and wont be doing any more of this stuff - it’s too expensive for them to do and support. They nearly went down, so they refocused their business and they now stay firmly in their lane.
Maybe they will one day do a rompler version of the Nord Drum to compete for the Roland SPD market, but even that is fairly unlikely…
Too expensive to support?! Has anyone seen any support for the ND3p?
Hard to imagine Nord would go bankrupt because of a product like the Nord Drum seeing how well established they are in the professional stage with their keyboards. I don’t even know any competitor to the ND3p that can claim same quality of sound, pads, versatility and ease of use.
Selfishly as I own the ND3P I hope it never comes!
I know what you mean though, I have been waiting for the new Roland ‘Handsonic’, the HPD 20 was launched in 2013 and is still selling with little to no discount (even on ebay) I have wanted one for a while but keep thinking the ‘new one’ must be just around the corner!
The probably don’t sell enough volume of these things to invest in the R+D to bring out a new one.
i own a 3p but read the everywhere that the 2
is better. maybe they lost intrest in improving after realising that they kind of made it worst.
i read about the benefits of the 2 over the 3p but what are the suposed improvments of the 3p.
if you could dream a nd4, what do you guys think could be improved, added, changed? i would like more and better fx and usb audio and/or d-sub to have individual outs.
I think your second sentence actually makes my point.
They have said before, they are not doing any more in this space. They produce the 3P, they dont update, it they dont market it, they dont produce any new preset banks - its just running out the course.
When you see is all there will be. No point complaining. Its not like they made a secret out of it - they said they won’t do more.
Note: nobody else is doing any developent of these products either. Not even much bigger companies like Roland or Alesis. They all do sample based drum pad and nothing more. Erica Synths has a new one and it is just a desktop, not the pads integrated. It’s clear no one in the business believes this is a product space worth investing new money in.
I have the 2 and have had the 3P. Both are brilliant but what i appreciate most about the 2 is the small footprint. I didn’t need the pads on the 3P so it was unnecessarily large.
I overpaid for a used 2, but it was worth it and i will never sell it.
If @Elektron would make it easier to access the velocity mod menus for their devices that support it, it would go a long way to fill the gap of percussion-controlled instruments that is mostly occupied by the Nord Drum series. It’s such low hanging fruit for Elektron, IMO.
The exciting thing is I’m gonna hook it up to my mini electronic kit to play the kit sounds through my SPD-SX and see how well it gels with some of my favorite user-made 3P kits.
I used to use my Digitakt as a drum pad brain, interested to see how playable the Syntakt is. I do know one thing, between the 3P and Syntakt, I have absolutely no shortage of brutal kicks.
