Considering updating the mono mk1 to V2. How likely am I to permanently brick the synth? How easy is the revert back to 1.99?
Fresh update for the mk2. V1.2.3 available on their firmware page:
Bug fixes
- There were many bugs while Morphing (either with the playhead or between patterns), these have all been handled, Morph is now extremely stable in all conditions
- S&H modulator now synchronize correctly
- Switching pattern rapidly could potentially lead to crashes, this has been solved
- There was some unexpected behaviour with slid note such as NoteOff being wrongly
triggered, this has been fixed - Automation now works properly on every pattern
- Fixed display issue with XEnv trigs
- Added additional layers of error handling in many areas of the code
New feature:
- When the selected parameters has XEnv trigs enabled, the Unlink switch will indicate it by turning purple as a visual cue.
I got a newsletter today from them, and they seem to be posting on their forum and promising to be responsive, so this might be a good time to try the update. I have some detailed notes on reversion to 1.99 somewhere above.
15% off on the mk2. Wasn’t it 40% off not too long ago?
Thank you!
How is the new firmware? Is this thing still considered buggy?
I tried today to upgrade to the latest. Mk 1 V2. Ws totally borked. Reverted back to 1.99. Will try again. Apparently it’s possible.
I just love the audio rate mod on the filter in all phase mode using analog fm.
Mono MK2 users who are on the latest firmware (v1.2.3, per the support forum) - is this product finally relatively stable? Do you recommend purchasing it for live performance?
No, but Norand resumes the development of the OS so it will be one day I guess.
MK1 is reliable though.
I thought the new OS made the mk2 stable? They made a big deal about it on their forum.
All the musicians I know who recently bought the mk2 (through the price drop last summer), sent it back because of bugs and freezes.
Whenever this thread bumps up, I sorrowfully remember what seemed to be one of the most interesting synth concepts of the past few years. I would really like to try an MK1. But … at the same time I know for sure that I will regret having a more or less buggy device sitting on my shelf that is not so much fun to play with.
(I know, some will say it’s all fine on 1.99, but I’m easily frustrated with inconsistency
)
I have a mk1 on os 1.99 and its bug free. Could never upgrade the os though. Stuck on 1.99. Which is fine.
It is, without a doubt. As @abluesky said, FW1.99 on mk1 is bug free. Even the latest firmware on it seems to be reliable.
i had one but could not see the red writing although loved the sound
I had one freeze since the last firmware was dropped. Nothing major. Im still onboard for Mono mk2.
Weird FX percussion sounds are easy with the Mono, and the randomisation functions with the sequencer are really musical imo so getting nice sfx grooves and layers for a track from it is something I do all the time. As another user said more typical percussion is where it’s weaker tbh, hats and noise based sounds with a natural response aren’t great but weird glitchy takes on hats are pretty cool
this is useful info, thanks!
Mono MK2 is $530 new at Perfect Circuit right now.
