I still think about that “first jam on the norand” YouTube video and want one. The reports of the unit getting hot were what ended my search
I have never even noticed my unit getting hot.
To be honest, I was kind of waiting for other users’ feedback before trying this new FW (beside @Junkmanukuk, thanks), but it is not even mentioned on the Norand forum!
Really strange. Maybe everybody’s waiting like me to see someone take a jump
Fuck it I’ll make the jump in the next couple of days if you’re keen to see how stable it is. I love the Norand and its sound but I use it primarily as a fairly simple bass synth mostly so think my main use case of it is pretty safe from new bugs wrecking it. If there’s anything you’re keen to test for stability though lemme know as by not generally venturing too far from the 303/101 territory with it I’m not exactly pushing its limits like some others here.
Thanks so much!
Yes, I’ve seen that 🥲
Sorry read ur reply wrong
Sorry, in spite of the unflattering feedback, I’m still obsessed by this synth…
I have gone again through he manual a bit (I used to know it like the palm of my hand), rediscovering the wealth of fun features this thing has - there are too many for my slow brain to keep them all in mind.
In my opinion, the sequencer is a major highlight of this instrument, and I remember having a lot of fun with it, messing up prepared sequences and getting back on my feet with undo, using the various play directions, inserting trigs using the random page feature, looping just a selected portion of a sequence, using step dice at the end of a pattern to announce the next pattern, etc.
It dawned on me that the Norand could be used to sequence external gear - which I’ve never tried in the past - and I wanted to ask the good people here if anybody had tried that?
Since FW 2 (when/if it works), it is possible to use separate MIDI channels for the regular timber and for mod notes. Theoretically, the Norand can respond to these separate channels, but does it send out MIDI data on both these channels? If yes it could become a nice 2 channel sequencer - no matter if the internal synth works or not.
OK, just for the record, I tried very briefly yesterday to hook my Razzmatazz to the Norand, and could sequence the former with the latter. This was a lot of fun!
I’m working on something else at the moment, but I intend to make some more experiments and figure out a nice setup involving the Norand - and maybe upgrade to FW2 one day (
) to take advantage of dual MIDI channel sequencing, if possible at all.
I have never tried more elaborate sequencers like the Hapax or Cirklon, but I think the Norand could make a lot of sense as an immediate, easy-to-use and creative performance sequencer for beats.
Is it possible to trigger the Mono mk1 sequencer using an external trigger like the one of the TR8s?
It seems like yes. buy this is all I could find.
Clock/Trig in : In the CV2 source settings, page A and B are used to set the clock input behaviour. Default is Clock input (A), B transforms the input into a trigger input.
The poor support has absolutely tarnished what should have been a future classic.
I don’t understand your question. Why not just synching them?
I suspect they want to use an irregular clock.
I keep meaning to try the CV capabilities but haven’t yet.
You don’t happen to have a timestamp for the part you refer to?
I’m not the biggest fan of this guy :-/
(Although he’s probably a nice person)
But anyway, I’m CV blind, so I wouldn’t be able to give any opinion on that, I guess.
Are you meaning like the step advance feature of an SH-101? Using a trigger source to advance the sequencer step. I’ve shelved my Mono MK1 for the last couple of months but I can certainly pull it out and give it a go. I used to love sequencing my SH01A from my TR8S.
Edit: Yes, it works. This is the mode that I set it to:
CV [PAGE D] : Mono uses its CV clock input as clock. In this mode, each step is triggered by an incoming pulse signal at the CV clock input, and the pattern restarts everytime a pulse is received at the reset input. Note that when using CV clock, some features of Mono can’t work : microshift, ratchet, and swing. This mode really shines when using a weird semi-random clock source like a Make Noise Wogglebug
Hmmm. That’s helpful thank you. Did you set it to mode B?
CV Page D
As in, enter MIDI settings and select page D.
Ok I think I understand. I wonder then what CV mode B does. Guess I’ll find out when I get home.
Thanks for your help.
