Why do you see suffering?
I’m here for liberation.
No better feeling than liberation. I just feel the pain when people fall short when they shouldn’t. Its best not to expect too much of yourself.
Muting Other Gear might be an option – except this thread is in that category too ??
Should this be classified General Discussion ?
I muted the three Marketplace categories, they are clutter if you’re never going to buy.
Nice focus here on the positive side with being a music maker.
The journey is it’s own reward.
Failing is just a temporary falling, one can rise again and continue the journey ![]()
Now it’s in Science Lab.
The discussion fits with the challenge theme, doesn’t it?
Edit: I meant Mission Briefs actually.
Science Lab category ! Sure !
Added : Or Mission Briefs.
Didn’t buy any new gear in '25 tho I was saving up for the Tonverk but then when it was released I couldn’t decide whether to get one or to get an OT instead and I’m still at that crossroads now with no real hurry to decide.
I failed hard at this last year. But I don’t regret it, I got a new job after being unemployed and created two focused live performance set-ups that let me explore and express.
I’m committing next year to sticking with these two setups and not making major changes. Both have iOS and hardware, so I might buy a few plugins and maybe swap a small thing here or there. For me the bigger issue isn’t the money (I sell almost as much as I buy) but the time lost changing everything up.
I’m in. I went through a lot of gear in the last 18 months trying to find pieces that I gelled with. This was driven by the principle of falling fast. This process was also about exploring how I like to work and what I want to make as much as it’s been about trying different gear. Funnily enough a couple of the instruments I have now (voltage lab 2 and machine MK3) are ones that I discarded early on in the journey. I think my subsequent experiences, after I parted with them, shone a different light on them and so, as my understanding grew of differing workflows and my preferences, so did my appreciation for these machines. The result is that I now approach them differently and with clearer ideas and expectations.
I have a strong sense that this phase of falling fast is over (to be honest, I’m a little tired of buying and selling gear, if nothing else). However, I am a bit nervous because the new pattern of behaviour is not yet established, but I’m also excited by the possibilities it offers. This next phase is still going to be one of discovery but will instead be focused on the exploration of the capabilities of my instruments and of my creativity. I don’t know what, if anythingcomes after that. I’m just happy to be here.
Good luck to everyone doing this!
Sounds like you got a good combination of instruments, enjoy making and exploring stuff on it.
I empathize with people who fall short as well. But goal-setting, especially where self-improvement is involved, is to me always worthwhile. The key is in how you handle setbacks if/when they come. I have failed at NGNY in the past, but committing to it without a doubt reduced my focus on GAS and freed up my mind quite a bit.
I am in for 2026.
Now that I have my Tonverk (with a hope of selling a few of my synths when recorded) I am happy to engage in NGNY 2026 !
I have already made a few sketches with Tonverk that make me very hopeful, so I see no reason not to go all in !
Maybe even a LGNY, but that remains to be seen ![]()
Wasn’t doing NGNY25 and did end up spending a bit this year. But over the past few months I’ve also gotten to a much healthier place where I’m regularly using at least some of it. Wanna keep that ball rolling so I’m in for NGNY26.
I plan to do it
I may very well not buy any gear in 26. Just moved house so have to prioritise carpets and stuff ![]()
I have all the gear I need anyway. totally happy with it, and looking forward to getting stuck into some new releases in my new space next year.
one just forgets about plug-ins also. there was no physical delivery, they don’t collect dust. in a way, software gas is even worse.
what if i buy 2nd hand ?
or sell a piece of gear before ‘replacing’ it with a device that looks/sound/functions differently… has different name, psu , case, inside electronics, connections etc… it’s ‘almost’ the same, except for everything being different. ???
I am really looking forward to New Year New Gear 2026!!! Gonna get a sax, a jaw harp, another sampler…
Edit: Whoops, wrong thread.
I’m onboard with the exception of two items I want that are out of stock until March.
Really waiting for spring 2027 to buy a couple of things used once the shiny and buzz has worn off.
I have a lot to learn with the current gear I have. There aren’t any ideas where I don’t have a piece of gear or app to try them out on.
It’s up to you but I feel like if you sell something you have to start over to work for your 30 day no new gear coin since selling can be a trigger
I intend to buy 1 piece of gear to celebrate finishing NGNY '25, and then i’m back on the wagon in the first week of January. This NGNY year was great btw, highly recommended!
