No New Gear 2026 - NGNY26

2025 isn’t over yet, but I already can state that it was an epic fail to me when it comes to resisting to GAS.

I can safely say I got all I need, and some in double.

I feel like 2026 is the one for my NGNY!
And releasing music instead of hoarding gear.

When you are feeling weak, post here to get some help for reaching your objective.
You may set yourself weaker intermediate objectives that are easier to reach

  • Don’t buy after 5pm.
  • Wait for a month
  • Make a track with one piece of gear only
  • Release an album before buying anything

These are good strategies, and there are others in previous NGNY threads.
Feel free to list them in this thread.
But before all, be supportive!
For instance, try to not mention specific gear.

What if I preordered something in November 2025 that will not be delivered until March/April 2026? May I still give it a go?

I’m in. But mine will be for plugins (im totally ITB now).
I’ve developed an unhealthy habit in buying plugins.

I’m a sucker for marketing and anything under £50 I don’t even question. This all adds up and it’s getting out of hand. So im in.

Luckily Zebra 3 is already paid for this year when it’s fully released next year.

It works, as in “not spending in 2026”.

Do a new track or even just noise and tag it #NGNY26 each time you feel like buying hardware or software.

I am in!

Tonverk arriving today, in my epic NGNY2025 fail.

I also bought a Move, Tempera, adat-interface, VSX headphone, Make Noise Multimod and Q-pas.

This is not a hobby, it’s a habit. One I like and can afford, but lets kick it in 2026!

Being part of a music forum that showcases new gear regularly and signing up to abstinence seems like punishment?

This forum is not about buying gear, more how to use it and what to use it for. Or that’s the part I prefer…

Yes if it was just that. I’d understand but its not. There’s a lot more on the other side yes?

So we should only weight on this other side?

Absolutely not. But you cant deny this surely? To stop any addiction you have to avoid the triggers. Thats a lot of threads to mute. I’d rather a holistic approach.

Can’t be stressed enough! I really wish everybody in here would take consider this as a good new years resolution to humbly inspire and share. :black_heart:

Edit: There’s really few things I buy, but I’ll not be able to join NGNY26 – I will enjoy to watch the great spirit from the sideline, though!

I’m in for 2026!
I failed last year, although I only bought very few things, and some were to replace stuff that broke.

Surely avoiding the triggers is part of the plan.

I also feel I have reached a state of mind (and studio mess) where 2026 seems the one, for me.

This place has already a lot more to offer that gear fetishizing and marketing, though.
I’ll be focusing on creative threads and those talking about what I own already.

good luck everyone who is in for 2026.

just 12 days until next year, I haven’t purchased any software/hardware in 2025 and it feels better than I expected to be honest.

I won’t be joining next year, as I want to take what I’ve learnt this year into the next.

I can’t emphasise this a much, there were 2 or 3 instances where I had big dopamine/GAS surges this year and simply posting in the thread helped a lot, it gave some pause.

Good luck!

I agree you have to draw a line in the sand and start somewhere. I think a push for creative threads and crush those new gear threads into oblivion would definitely be good for this forum. Tbh i joined just for Elektron gear. Not all the other fluff.

I‘m in! I bought way more than I intended to in 2025 and now I really have more than enough to make everything I want to make. I also don’t have much time for making music anymore and would prefer to spend that on doing just that, and learning the new stuff I bought in 2025.

I’m allowing myself an exception: I might reorganize my desk or music space a bit, so a few new cables or stands wouldn’t be a failed NGNY 26 for me personally.

I read this and thought “Im in!”

Right after buying a Behringer UB-1, Soma RoAT, and M-Vave Pocket Amp. :man_facepalming:

But I am in. I need to properly write an album/set, practice playing it live, stick an album on Bandcamp that no-one will listen to but will be mine, and play a live set for pure terror.

btw you can mute entire categories to make it easier

EDIT: Also, I’m in for 2026!
