I don’t think this is a failing. An entire year of abstaining and then receiving a gift
that’s great, a great takeaway into the new year and hopefully some more time for music
wow, sounds like you’ll have lots of non music things to focus on!
nice, so that’d be 2 years and 1 piece of gear. good stuff.
I have a project I’ll be working on next year as well as an abstract idea I have currently. I have a small amount of things I would like and look forward to stepping into next year with some fresh perspective.
I’ve also moved into a new place with my partner this year as mentioned and have a dedicated office / studio. So I’ve made a space that can be for focusing/studying as well as music - looking forward to the year ahead.
I see @LyingDalai has made a new thread for 2026, so for all those that have posted here with intentions of getting involved for next year, I’d like to point you to the thread and wish everyone good luck and a great year ahead with it!
also I encourage anyone who is thinking about this to read through some/all of the current thread, many of us have shared insights, stumbles and learnings and I for one have found it really helpful to read them.
I’m definitely finishing this year. Going to go post in the 2026 thread to get subbed and encourage others. Some of the life growth and philosophy we shared here was great and I definitely want to be around that for another year.
I think i am in for next year - i already have whats necessary. Ok -if they add a WT engine to that TV i might get into a problem, but besides that - there are no wishes.
I’m reading a book called “The practice of not thinking”. It’s got a really great section on the psychology of owning things / wanting things. Recommend it.
Curious to hear if the people here have devised any kind of “exit strategies” to prevent themselves from rubber-banding right back into the whole addiction/GAS cycle once the clock ticks over into January. How are you going to navigate a world in which buying new stuff is once again “allowed”? Anybody preemptively resubbing to NGNY26 to avoid the problem altogether?
quoting myself here as I thought about this a few weeks back.
I have 2 distinct projects that I’d like to focus on so my hope is for some new things to bring joy, not obsession, and to focus on the projects and not the gear.
Ideally, I’d not like to make many purchases and refrain from chopping and changing.
