No New Gear 2025 - NGNY25

getting rid of the browser is such a good move, I don’t have the youtube app or any social media apps so I’d say roughly 85% of useless phone time was the browser for me.

I’m on email lists though and just got Goodhertz sale through. That is genuinely tempting - so once again I’m coming here to post. I might get some of those but it can wait, I do not need them now, or at all!

I wasn’t thinking about getting them, email marketing works. Should probablly keep on unsubbing from everything.

I’ve cut my phone time down by 79% this week.

It wasn’t terrible by any standards from what I seem to gather from friends and the ether, but it is having a significantly positive effect on my mind this week.

Can recommend this - I have no youtube or social media apps, so it was the last portal to dopamine time/mental sucking stuff that I had there. To browse or come on here, I have to go on my laptop and that makes it more intentional for me.

I feel this will positviely affect GAS and more importantly my mind long term.

Was close today to buy tonverk, was feeling good and uplifted from some things i did today, and mainly because of latest update and black Friday discount for 1200 euro. But decided not.
So keep on strong people. We have good gear already, and more then enough. Keep creating

Will this thread be relevant in 2026 ?

Iirc it was always considered good practice not to mention discounts, prices et al in this thread. For a reason.

Being prone to doom-scrolling a few sites on my phone at times I can relate to this a lot. Still I found no effective tool to block certain sites effectively on it. As opposed to a localhost exclusion list on my laptop, which is working very well. – Whenever I reduce to less than two hours screentime a day my body and mind start to relax deeply.

oh man i would love to be part of this in 2026 but i know myslef too well and no doubt will follow the same mad path i have always followed - best of luck and congrats to anyone who manages a gear free year

give it a go, unless your path is working for you.

exactly, I don’t think app limits of blocking sites works, not for me at least.

I’ve felt a lot calmer all week for sure.

I have been waiting to get a certain EQ that has been out of production for 20 years and one just popped up in my alerts. I’m tempted, but I’m going to see if no one jumps on it until the new year.

It might take a year or two, but another will come along at some point. And the market doesn’t seem to be appreciating for them, so price shouldn’t be any more of an issue a few years from now than it is today.

December is here.

31 days left of the year - feeling good about this!

What if Santa Claus brings us gear? Does that count?

you have elf in your username, feels like you should be telling us that.

I didn’t set out to do a gearless 2025 but it worked out that way anyway, or almost.

Other than gifts for other people, all I’ve bought this year is a softshell case, a midi cable, and a TRS cable.

My DT 880s non-detachable* cable broke so I’m about to get a Dremel off craigslist to do the jack-replacement suggested by @no-thanks and others. I’ll have to buy a jack, so there’s that.

So, under $100 for the whole year, with just 31 non-shopping days to go! Staying strong!

*which is bullshit, btw

that’s great.

and yes, bullshit to the non-detachable cable breaking.

I haven’t managed to buy nothing new this year, but there‘s lots of things I‘ve hovered for a bit but managed to wait out and not buy. Is it in the spirit of this thread to post what I‘ve avoided? If not, I can also include that in the gear purchases thread, maybe this list could spark some GAS for participants of NGNY?

Also: who‘s starting the NGNY 26 thread? I want in but I don’t want to open the thread. My impression was that whoever opens the thread is somewhat responsible for the whole endeavor and I don’t want that role . @moving_particles did a great job this year from what I read! Thanks for helping the participants in their weakest moments.

I’ve mentioned the odd pieces that have sparked some GAS or interest. I don’t like to think of such formalities to be honest as there’s no set rules, I think if you think a list could be GAS sparking then perhaps it’s best for another thread.

Also thank you - I’ve really enjoyed being the flag bearer this year and the sense of community here has been great and genuinely helpful for me. I would say I felt a massive sense of responsibility when TV came out as it sparked my interest like nothing else and I really had to reign myself in, didn’t want to let the team down here ha.

I started this thread on the 1st - I think if you just leave it until then, someone will feel like it’s right!
