No New Gear 2025 - NGNY25

my contract runs out at the end of this year, so I will definitely join NGNY26

did you commit to the NGNY out of interest?

sounds like the time is right.

this year was transitional for me, new job, new place, so it made sense.

I posted something similar else where, feels good to bypass it, not even looking at sales.

I got some in ear headphones for climbing but other than that, I’m not looking at anything and agree, it’s a relief.

Yeah, I really did. No new stuff until September … will try harder next year.

Still on the wagon! Contemplating whether or not i’ll extend to NGNY '26. Seriously considering it. Main reason: i’ve been enjoying rediscovering my existing gear, (especially MPC2K sequencing SP404mk2) so much this year. I want to keep digging further, and I feel buying a new box will distract from that. Anyway Black Friday’s almost out of the way.

fuck yeah.

I won’t be partaking in 2026, I feel I’ve gotten a lot of this year and would like to experience the other side of it.

It’s been a rough year of expanding the studio, I’m all in for NGNY26 - is there a sign-up somewhere that’s active yet?

nope, someone will start a thread next year.

I might join NGNY26. I have so much good gear that I love now.
Biggest reason isn’t money for me, but the time. Time to look at gear, buy it, watch videos of it while waiting for it, learning it. I much prefer to use that time actually making tracks.
During this black friday period I’ve focused on buying tutorials instead of gear, and I’ll focus on learning and making more going forward.

Can you dm me the sales on tutorials? XD

I am in same boat and after few years of no new gear, bought a few this year and due to time limit, no time to mess with new gear for a long time. Probably next year focus on updating home repairs again.

I shouldn’t have looked at u-he stuff. It’s too tempting as they don’t often do sales but I committed to no plugins so just dropping by here to share.

We are nearing December, last few weeks of the year, I would feel so stupid to go against my commitment over a plugin late November… ok, just needed to write that down.

I am feeling a level of excitement at the prospect of getting something next year, I don’t think that’s wrong though, I’m human, and to be honest having had a year out and not having bought a thing software/hardware, with my DTII and Live, I think anything next year will be very much appreciated.

Takes me ages to learn a piece of gear these days. Maybe next year i will join.

failed hard this year will try again next year. I have lot to use so probably can avoid buy next year.

I think this is relevant so will post here rather than start a new thread.

Screen time / Forum time: do you set limits, have problems with this or thoughts?

To give context, it is obviously a very common modern issue that people spend a lot of time on devices and I think this dopamine seeking behaviour becomes patterned and is inevitably related to GAS.

I have cut mine down but it creeps up here and there and I intend to cut it further.

Interested to hear your perspectives on this.

I didn’t have a problem until earlier this year when I got anxiety really bad from my last job. Now, I have limits on my phone, especially IG. 45 minutes per day and then I get I pop up and have to acknowledge that I want to go over my time limit. I also set it so that my phone can’t use most apps from 10PM to 6AM, so I can’t get up in the middle of the night and doomscroll.

Was really helpful when I was on the dating apps earlier this year too. Those can be a real time sink of questionable value.

On my desktop, I’m better because I usually have a lot of constructive things to do (day job, client work or my own music, banking, research, etc) and I think of that as the place that I do those things.

I failed the challenge this year. 2026 will be the one!

nice I haven’t checked that out.

totally, I’m far more intentional with my laptop (work/personal)

on that note, I deleted my browsers off my phone today. there are a lot of genuinely useful things I use it for, but don’t really need a browser.
