Current goal, sell…

  • MD
  • MNM
  • Peak
  • Portastudio
  • SH-101
  • Boss SE-70

Having difficulty actually doing it tho.
Sold everything else i wanted to sell, which feels good. Less clutter, more focus.

Peak was on the screen to sell when I saw the update. It’s a pretty awesome update :frowning: it halted my sale

Today I sinned. I bought the Syntakt as it brings everything to the table, to use it as a one-box-setup. Will sell my MPC One and some other Music Gear to make up for the price, but still I bought something.
As soon as the Leaked Images showed up I knew, that, if the sounds are good, I would be lost. Hoped the ARmk2 to be exactly that, but was missing tonal stuff there, so sold it. Hope I get used to the hihats on the ST.

Wait till the next Elektron release. It will be a flagship im sure.

I want back in. I had an experience the other day that really made me aware of this cyclic chase for gear (more recently software) I’ve been on and how it’s not serving me anymore. I feel that a lot of this addiction to learning and acquiring new stuff has had its benefits but now I have enough gear and software for lifetimes of music making and production.

My goal now, is to find more joy in expanding my playing capabilities rather than my plugin folder. I’m gonna start working through this book:

Improvise for Real: The Complete Method for All Instruments Improvise for Real: The Complete Method for All Instruments: Reed, David: 9780984686360: Amazon.com: Books

I want to spend more time reading and working through educational material and less time reading through forums.

Wow. It seems to me that the possibility of immense regret is v real.

Begs the obvious question what are you keeping?

That book sounds interesting - something I struggle with is adding musical elements/knowing what to add to the basic loops I create. Could be helpful?

How shameful, I forgot…

  • Polyend Tracker

I LOVE that thing, and left it off my list.

But that’s it.

Sure is! I remember you selling quite a bit of stuff in the past couple of years? And if you at one point had all/most of that stuff at the same time, then it’s a truly significant trimming down of a setup.

Personally, even though I’m doing mighty great as far as NGNY goes, I’m still hesitant to let go of some gear (Digitone and Perfourmer are at the top of that list) as I think I’d just end up regretting it and/or having the extra money to buy something new. Mostly it’s this weird form of FOMO or trying to cover all bases (FM synthesis with the FN, for example) even if I’m def not a pro musician or have time to use everything anyway. Still, rn it feels it makes more sense to keep stuff I’m not using than selling it and potentially sending myself down that spiral of selling/buying again.

Yea I caved again. @Joebas please put sme down for some sins in April too :disappointed:

Feels daft or like I’m kidding myself to say it but I am definitely done for the year now.

I’ve managed to put my Syntakt gas/interest down. No hate for Elektron, as I’ve had great times with several of their products, but there is something about the sound of most of the post-MnM era, that just doesn’t jive with me. Love and miss the sequencer, though.

Same same. I too find the old units more pleasing and interesting sound- and otherwise. It’s quite a relief it wasn’t a must have for me either with the amount of instruments to explore as it is.

It seems very powerful and has got some cool new features though.
The chord mangling function is particularly interesting.

This is why I have stopped selling for now. I’ve got rid of what I was happy to and definitely didn’t need, and I’ve kept all the stuff I’m almost certain I’d buy back at some point (even if I could really use this money too).

My finances and sanity can’t take another run round the selling/buying spiral, as you mention. I’ve got analogue, digital, fm, modular, semi-modular, pedals, noise boxes, drum machines, samplers and sequencers. Decks, guitar, amp. It’s surely (more than) enough!

I’ve enjoyed reading about this. I’m sure for a bunch of people it will be their first Elektron box, and they will have a great time with it. For me, I’m able to look at what it does, and decide I don’t need one, no GAS for this.

Id like a copy but it seems expensive.

Well gang, after 14 months, gas has struck. Luckily it’s 2 devices I won’t consider pursuing for atleast another year.
SSL Bus+ looks amazing but I’d have to meet some serious goals before expanding my outboard further. 2 to 3 years off from pursuing the second hand market for one.

I’m also really drawn to the TE TX-6… can’t realistically let myself consider it cost wise, so finishing out this second year will continue to be ezpz. It actually feels nice being inspired by the idea of new releases again.

Car repairs and home repairs and taxes have made it easy to stay committed to NGY 2022 challenge. Heck I can do it even in 2023 as well. I do have a few items on wish list like Erica Synths Techno System, Elektron Analog Rytm MK2, Korg MS20, Moog Voyager, Access Virus TI2 and Arp 2600 but they can wait until I have mastered my current gear purchases from last few years.
